I take my two year old son once a month as a preventative type thing, and to keep him "well-adjusted" (I mean his spine, not his personality!)

I started taking him after I had been going for a while myself and had seen AMAZING results of what chiropractics can do. I had chronic back and neck pain for over a decade, as well as sciatica and muscle spasms. All of my back pain is gone now, my sciatica and muscle spasms are under control, my chronic migraines are almost completely non-existant and much more mild when they do occur. I even had improvement with my acid reflux. I have been sick less since I started regular adjustments too. The only thing that chiropractic care has not "cured" or made manageable for me is my chronic neck pain- that has only responded slightly to regular adjustments. We determined that it was my muscles that are continually pulling my neck vertabrae out of place, and I have been working with yoga to reduce that muscle tension which is causing the problem. Other than the neck problem, chiropractics has done absolute wonders for my body, mood, and overall health.

I figured if it could do so much for me, it wouldn't hurt to get my son started early and hopefully help him avoid getting in the first place all that chronic pain I accumulated over the years.

I don;t know that it is really necessary to take your kid to a chiropractor, but if you are thinking about it, i would recommend taking them for the initial "breaking in period" (about 12 visits) and then keep going for a few months to see what kind of difference it makes. If your child is in sports or has bad posture, those would be two reasons to start taking her. Frequent illnesses, mood disorders/mood swings/depression, frequent headaches; those would be other good reasons. There are just so many things chiropractics can help with.

I say if you can afford to do it, don't hesitate to check it out.

A.: I actually have not taken my son to a chiro but some close friends took their daughter to a pediatric chiro quite often when she was very young. She would have ear infection after ear infection and after they took her for adjustment which helped her ears drain properly she didn't wind up having to have tubes in her ears. Hope this helps!

I have been taking my kids since they were born, It helps keep them healthy. As a mom I can tell when my kids need an adjustment they seem to get more cranky and everything like that. It helped with my kids ear infections without using antibiotics which only gave them diareah. All of my kids have not really been sick with anything in a long time. Recently my son had a sinus infection and we realized he hadn't been sick like that in over four years and he is 7. I go myself for regular check up it helps me alot.

Chiropractic care isn't just for back aches, there are lots of different reasons to go. Chiropractic care can assist with ear aches, scoliosis, constipation, headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, asthama, just to name a few. It is all about making sure the nervous system, (spinal cords and nerves) are able to send messages without any restrictions. Having your spine aligned can help your body be its own doctor like it was created to be to heal itself.

I find it very scary that so many people are ready to jump in to seeing Chiropractor for anything and everything. Yes Chiros claim to cure GI, blood pressure problems etc etc. There is NO research basis for any of these claims!!! They cannot back themselves up. There are many reports of chiro manipulations causing strokes in young healthy individuals. (They keep that quiet the lobby for chiroprators is very strong) Many chiro adjustments are done whether needed or not and not based on is the spine malaligned. Yes people walk out of the office feeling good there is an endorphin release when a manipulation is performed. That is why people go back over and over again for that quick fix. Chiropractors can cause hypermobility of the joints by adjusting people over and over again. Yes then they feel like they have to keep going. You need exercise and strength to hold the spine in proper alignment. The joints should be mobilized and put into proper alignment but it should be in conjunction with strengthening and stretching. Only the joints that are restricted should be mobilized and that is not what many chiropractors do they adjust whether you need it or not.

A Osteopathic doctor or manual physical therapist will use evidence based treatment and will not try to see you forever. You should be able to progress to independent exercise.
