My 2 year old (26 months) son is refusing his Juice Plus gummi Vitamins. He is not a great eater and since he is in daycare I think vitamins are important. I am looking for a a chewable vitamin. I have noticed he likes to suck on the gummi's for a half hour. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Dear M.,

My daughter wasnt that keen on taking the Juice Plus Gummi vitamins. However, I found she really enjoyed the Juice Plus shakes (french vanilla and chocolate..made with fruits and veggies) mixed with soy or low fat milk to supplement her picky eating habits.

My daughter is just a couple months older, and her vitamin comes as a prescription from her pediatrician- it is a drop and i put it in her juice once a day, she doesn't even know about it! It is called Poly- Vi- Flor.

Are you aware that Juice Plus sells Chewables? I am a distributor. There are also capsules that you can open up and put into food. We do this for our 2 yr. old (27 month) daughter. Each morning we open a veggie & fruit capsule and put half of each into her yogurt. She also loves the chewables & gummies.

My two daughters LOVE the multi vitamin I buy from our local health food store. They come in a variety of flavors from what I understand, but our local store only carries one flavor. They come with a little certificate from an outside laboratory who supposedly tested how good they are and they tested better than the company who made them claims them to be. They are chewables...2 tablets once a day and they do taste good, gluten free, vegetarian, hypo allergenic, no artificial colors or flavors. They are called Animal Parade by Nature's Plus Source of Life. The product # is 29982.

Hi M.,

My children used to take the chewable vitamins until I found Arbonne's Children's Hybrid vitamins. It is a power punch powder that turns into a Fruit Punch when you add it to water. It has lots of powerful superfood antioxiants which help with the imune system. I aad the powder sometimes to their apple sauce or make ice pops out of it.

Having had a child that is a picky eater there are a couple of things you can do. 1. Make sure whatever he eats is healthy. it doesn't matter when he eats or how much, just that he eats health and is hydrated. 2. There is hope they do grown out of it. 3. Try to introduce new foods to him. It just may be the selection he is not crazy about.4.Vitamins are good as a supplement, they are not supposed to replace food. So if he is not eating well giving him a vitamin does not make up for that. 5. Make eating time fun. I used to put the sandwhiches or whatever under a cover and say a few "magic" words and the child gets to lift it up and see what is underneath. Or let them help you make lunch that often times help them to want to eat. 6. Don't force them to eat just make sure that whatever he choses to eat is nutricious, check with you doctor to make sure that their is not anything medically wrong. 7. Try pediasure to help to supplement meals.

I have a friend who works for Shaklee, they sell all different types of vitamins, all of which are all natural, not synthetic. I get my daughters vitamins from her, and its in a powder form, so I mix it into her juice. If you'd like more info on that, email me back your number and I'll have her give you some info. Good luck!!

Hi M.:

My daughter takes a vitamin that works well she is in daycare also and not a good eater either, the vitamins feature fructose compounding which allows the cells to absorb more of the vitamins and minerals versus traditional vitamins which gets passed through the urine, so you can ensure that Christian is getting his nutrients. If you would like to know more please drop me a line. Thanks so much, M. D

Hi, my kids did not like juice plus to atart with either but just keep trying. Start with only the red and maybe only 1 then move on to two then when you finish the can he has to do the green ones. No red til the greens are gone. Thats what worked for my little ones. I figured some were better than others. As for a multi . we use "lil critters" brand you can get them at target. They are gummies also. Like I said, something is better than nothing especially since they are such picky eaters.
Hope it helps, just keep trying.

Hi M.,

We recommend Hero Nutritionals, Yummi Bears and Yummi Blasts, over Juice Plus for gummy vitamins. Go to their website and take a look. Rainbow Light has the best chewable multi vitamin for kids, Multi-Stars or Nutra-Stars. Break one in half for your two year old. In addition, Nordic Naturals has the best DHA product for kids, DHA Children's Chewables. It is a really tiny capsule that kids can just slide down or chew (has lemon flavor). A couple a day would be good, along with a multi - if you can get the Vit C in him this would be very helpful since he is in daycare.

There are lots of ways to get some nutritious food into your son. Keep trying. All parents struggle with the changing tastes of toddlers. They do have more taste buds so flavors are more pronounced to them. If you want to know more, order our book, Are Your Kids Running on Empty? - amazon, barnes and noble sites.

Let us know what you find that works for you.

Hi M.

I use strictly Arbonne Hybrids Powder Punch for my son. (He has multiple food allergies therefore we must be very careful what we give him) They are an all natural vitamin in powder form that you mix with water. It's a fruit punch flavor and he just loves it! Some of the ingredients are:
Blueberries
Carrot powder
Broccoli powder
Tomato powder
Cabbage Powder
Spinach Powder
Parsley Powder
Boysenberries
Raspberries
Cranberries
Apple
Pumpkin
Pomegranate
Elderberries

Feel free to contact me if you want further information. They can only be ordered thru an Arbonne rep (which I am) but they are VERY affordable. I can give you a few samples to try.

You might try a liquid vitamin added to his juice instead. Another ideas: Try setting them out with his breakfast along with vitamins for each of you. That may help him understand that you all take vitamins as part of a healthy lifestyle. Maybe you can give him the option to have them before he eats or during his meal ... As for chewables ... we used 2 different ones: Flinstones and one that was from my pediatrician in Germany (German brand, I don't remember the name).

My daughter HATED the floride/vitamin drops she took (living overseas with non-floridated water made them VERY important). So I feel your frustration! Hang in there.

I wouldn't be concerned about the juice part of it. Water or milk would be much better for him and his teeth. You might try crushing up a flinstone vit. and put it in his yogart or food some how.

You may visit my website, to check out an excellent chewable children's vitamin that I myself give to my children. There is also something that children love, it's called Meal Shake, it comes in cocoa flavor and you mix it with milk. My kids absolutely love it, and it's loaded with vitamins and minerals. Great for kids who don't eat the way we'd like them to or who are picky eaters.

Hi M.,

I give my two and half year old half of the Flinstone vitamins. You might want to ask your peditrician. I was told by the last peditrician we went to that when he turned two he could have half of one tablet. However, it might have to do with the weight of the child and all. Just ask him/her about it.

Have a Wonderful Day!

Dear M.,
I am going throught that now with my 31 month old. His peditrician said that he should not take vitamins because there kidneys are still growing and it is harder for them to break down in there system so he told me to give him a glass of carnation good start breakfast. I thought no way would he like it, but i was wrong he LOVES it.So now I am really not worried about how much my son doesn't eat or that he will get sick in school alot, Good luck

Hi, I just asked my ped about this yesterday since my daughter is not a great eater either. He does not think vitamins help or hurt except the gummis which are really bad for their teeth. Confirmed that with my daughter's dentist. Here is an article on the subject.

First of all, there is nothing like Juice Plus out there that even compares to what it does. It is the ONLY "vitamin" you need because it works synergistically and everything is absorbed into the cells because it is actually FOOD. The gummies are my last suggestion because of teeth, like the previous response stated. (By the end of the year, JP will have changed their gummies to offer a natural sweetener that isn't as h*** o* the teeth). There are chewables offered in the JP line, but if you can't get them to eat these, put the capsules in their breakfast/snack and/or dinner. They don't need one in daycare as long as they eat their daily dose any time, it is perfect! I hope this helps... :)

Well M.. It's better he does not take them. These kids vitamins have phenylketonurics or what's commonly known as "Equal" which is extremely dangerous for children.
I suggest you let him try Pediasure or better yet, check online or in a health food store for a good nice tasting multivit for children, all natural with no fillers or strange chemicals.
All toddlers are picky eaters, observe what healthy things he does like and let him eat that as much as he wants. Kids are resilient and they all go thru this phase.
Good luck.

Hi M.,

My 7 year old son has been on the JP gummies for 3 years...so maybe your 2-year old just needs a little more time to get used to them (maybe they're too hard or something for him to chew?)
Anyway, Juice Plus is such a great product, what about if you asked your JP sales contact if you could open the adult capsules and put the powder in juice or water? OR they do make a chewable vitamis as well....

I've tried a few other vitamins for kids....I really think the JP is the best one out there. Good Luck...V. H.

My son has also been a lite eater. My Pediatrician recommended Pediasure. They also make bars, which he may be too young for now. Send some Pediasure to school with him to keep on the calories and nutrients.
