So What Happened?

hi mamas...

...so, after two months of daily haircut discussions, a couple of times demonstrations, fueled by the bangs in my daughters eyes and her detest for my brushing it or putting "clippies" in it, her reminder that "you not brush your hair mommy", or "why you not brush your hair and bobbie has brush hers?" through tears and a much to high a pitch whine, (i have dreads, she claims to want the same) and an almost certain argument every morning for the last 6 mos or so when i initiate what we've come to call in our house, "the dance of the dreaded clippies", (at just 2 1/2, she may be small but she is a formidable opponent), she finally picked hair cut when i ask, as i have done every morning for two long months, "well, you can get your haircut if you don't like the clippies, but i can't look at you with all this hair in your beautiful eyes because i can't see them, so do you want to go get your haircut or put in the clippies?" to which she always replies "no, i put clippies in, i not wan't haircut momma." and the minute the word haircut left her lips i was on-line searching for the name of a place i remember being on lincoln ave in willow glen...not there anymore, so i was googling childrens haircuts and remmembered mamasource.

after all the info i gathered, and your thoughtful replies it came down to Balloon Cuts on meridian in cambrian and Lollipops on prospect in saratoga. I called ahead to both and asked how it looked for that afternoon, in that i was hesitant to peg down an exact time, and preferred to drop in sometime between 2:30 and 4:00, i never know how naptime is going go, and balloon cuts said "no problem just as long as it's before 6:15" lollipops replied "no, an appointment is better because after school lets out we never know." Balloon cuts it was, and it was great she was in awe when she walked in "this for haircutting?" we were greeted and imediatly asked "where do you want to sit, we have this pink barbie jeep?" before she could finish my daughter was climbing in, but quicky stopped, turned to the woman and said "i not want go up and down.", i had told her taht salon chairs do that, she was assured by both myself and her stylist she would not and up went the leg, i was quickly aked to help her, i did, and we were off. the stylist did just as i had instructed her to: bangs and only millimeters off everywhere else, ONLY. she didn't say much but warmed up as we warmed up to her, smiling, calling her sweetie and asking her if she liked the ribbons. so about 7 min and 58 sec. later, that's how long the video is, she had red fairy glitter and pink and red curly ribbons around each of her pigtails, and i had my first haircut certificate complete with lock of hair. so i wish to thank you all for your input.
peace,
A.

*one complaint - she asks her to watch tv in an effort to keep her head staight, and mr phil or some such daytime program was on, she kept her eyes on the tv when i started to comment on the pretty dress some woman was wearing, but last i checked there isn't a 2 year old on the planet wo gives a flying freak about daytime talk shows unless the little einstiens, dora or sponge bob happen to be a guest, we were the only ones there (at first) so perhaps they simply forgot to change the channel, if not it would be wise of them to change their programming. otherwise awesome.

All of my girlfriends take their kids to Kinder cuts on Blossom hill. I have seen the pics that they have taken, and they really do cater to the kids. Tv's on the walls play Disney movies and kid shows, the kids sit in seats that look like firetrucks or police cars, so they can have a good time while they are there.

Balloncuts (Meridian at Branham, in the Petco shopping center) does a great job and the kids have fun. I can't get my daughter to put up with much from me, yet they charm her into a fancy up-do for a wedding(she was a flower girl)!!

I have seen kids come in shy and unsure and leave beaming - and most want to stay and finish their movie or goof off in the play/waiting area. The place looks more like Chucky Cheese or something than a salon!

It's walk-in and I haven't ever had to wait long. (The time I made an appointment I still had to wait for the woman to finish her walk-in, but I did get the person I requested.)

Try this one.

We were able to get a same-day appt. There is just one stylist who is very patient with the kids. She has short cartoons so that you're not stuck waiting for the movie to end when the haircut is over. The kids love the special "chairs" (the barbie jeep seems to be the favorite for little girls). This is the most still we've ever gotten my little one to be for a haircut.

Kid's Salon on Union. It is great. I have taken my son there 3 times. She is really quick and everything is geared towards kids. Go to yelp.com and search for kids salons. They will give you all the kids salons in San Jose.

Sounds like you have some good suggestions already, but hears another option..

Have you tried Kindercuts on Blosson Hill Road?
They do kids pretty exclusively, though adults can get their hair cut there too.
They have climbing structures in the back and fun chairs for the little ones to sit in and some toys in the waiting area.
Every kid can have a lollipop when they are done and there is always a kid friendly movie playing for those waiting or in the chair.

Walk-ins are welcome, but I usually call ahead.
Maria is our favorite stylist. They are all good with kids, but both mine (6 and 2) like her the best.

Hi! When I was visiting my mom in Milwaukee, we had my son's first hair cut (6 months) at this awesome place called Snip-its. We loved it, its awesome! They are opening one in Palo Alto and I actually emailed the owner to find out when, and he said some time in March. I definitely recommend the drive up there, my son loved getting his hair cut. The place was really clean, very cute and the lady that cut his hair was amazing. They even gave us a picture of him, a little comb, a toy and a certificate for his first haircut!

I'm pretty sure the website is just www.snipits.com
