Does anyone know what to do for sitters once a child get's into the 5th grade?
No daycare will take them and I do not feel comfortable with her staying by herself a couple of hrs. until I arrive home.
Thanks!

you may want to look into registered child care home (see DFPS website mentioned in another suggestion). The licencing rules allow them to take up to 6 school age children for after school care in addition to any little ones that stay there all day.

Hi T.,

What about a neighbor, or a stay at home mom? I'm in Oakbrook Estates, and I have a 4th grader, she could hang out with us if you're close.

most daycares take children until they are 12, so you might want to look around for one that does. try www.dfps.state.tx.us and search texas child care, search daycare, fill in preference either home-based care or center-based care, age range, zip code(s) closest or most convenient for you. once the list comes up you can check if they had any violations at each inspection by clicking on the inspection date and then on the violation number itself. good luck.

Hello there my kids go to 5+2 Childrens Learning Center they are only 3 and 7 but I believe they take kids up to 12 or 13 and I think they have a location out in Pearland. I am not sure where but thought maybe you could try to give them a call. I hope this helps.

I haven't had a problem locating daycare for 5th grade (I'm in Friendswood). However, I'm facing that in the fall as my oldest enters the middle school in 6th grade. I have been thinking about trying to locate either a late high school or college student to fill this role and thought would pass this suggestion on to you.

I live in Friendswood, so I can't speak directly to what might be available in Pearland. In this area, I do know that there are many afterschool karate, dance programs, etc that provide afterschool care along with lessons. A karate school picks up at my daughters elementary school. Also maybe check out the local YMCA or your areas newspaper or neighborhood newsletter for possible part time babysitters.

The YMCA offers great afterschool programs and will pick children up from school. The monthly membership also includes other activities for the entire family. The YMCA in Pearland is one of the best in the city. I believe they take older children as well. Good luck!

Hi,
It looks like your in Pearland but the best afterschool program for older kids I know of is in Clear Lake called the Clubhouse. You can find them online at yourkidsclubhouse.com they have a program that goes through age 14 and is very well known in that area. i think also Silverline Montessori is developing a new program thats similar to Clubhouse they are in pearland but I think its still growing. Good Luck! BTW the summer program at clubhouse is AWSOME my 10yr old daughter goes every year! they are off 45 near el dorado exit. not that far if you go by I 45.
