I was very happy with the hospital LaMaze classes. You should probably go at the end of your 2nd, beginning of your third trimester. Don't want to wait too long, in case you deliver early :) Congrats and good luck!

Bradley childbirth classes. They really helped me, everyone I know who has taken them was glad they did.

I took bradley! awesome! i would also consider hypnobirthing. I think it is so important to take a natural childbirth class even if you intend to get an epidural. you never know what is going to end up happening! with my first i was registered to take the standard hospital one weekend crash course at 35 weeks and i went into preterm labor at 34 weeks. i was in labor triage scared and in pain for 8 hours and 8 cm's. my husband and i were totally unprepared and alone. the nurses just came and went. i begged for epidural and was told i would get one as soon as a room was available, they were booked. anyway, with my second baby i took the 12 week bradley childbirth class. it was wonderful. my husband and i felt so much more prepared and relaxed, when i went into labor everything went great. we felt confident, i wasn't scared by the pain of the contractions, they came and went (unlike the first time around I was scared and tense and contractions didn't seem to stop). i breathed through them. got to hospital, requested epidural, it didn't work properly, it only took on one side, but i was ok with that because it did decrease the pain in general (on half my body LOL) and i had my natural techniques for pain management and my husband and a doula! eventually they corrected the problem with the epidural. note these were two different hospitals in two different states. so even if you aren't planning on natural childbirth, you could still find the natural childbirth classes helpful, like I did!

Depending on the type of class...around 30-32 weeks. I took a class that met over several weeks for a short period of time. What kind of birth do you want? Hospital classes cover a lot of what you need to know about procedures and usually include a tour of the maternity ward and nursery or NICU.

Even though I was very educated about pregnancy and labor, I found that the classes helped highlight the most important things. It also made sure that my coach was up tp speed. I used a midwife and was committed to a natural birth. I definitely benefitted from the classes that I took. My midwife included a doula as part of her services...she was the one who did the classes so it gave us a chance to get to know each other.

Bradley classes are fabulous, and they take about 12 weeks.
Hospital run classes are worthless.

I third the Bradley classes and any other similar private, consumer-based class that will inform you of all of your options and support informed decision-making.

I also recommend getting a doula.
