Child Won't Poop in My House

I am watching my friend's 4 year old boy. He will pee like a champ. He will not poop in my house. This is not a new behavior for him. Does anyone have tips to offer for his future lack of constipation? His mom says that treats don't work. I was going to try books and make sure he has lots of fluids, very easy tricks to offer up. Any others?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

The child finally decided to poop in my house. Not so sure what worked. The most recent bit is that he waited too long and missed anyway. Now that he allergic to my cats, he is not in my house anyway. So, problem solved, just differently. Sigh!

My kids were always funny that way, too. Has this caused a problem? If you are going to watch him for an ongoing time, I probably wouldn't worry about it. He may also be more on a schedule to even go once a day (when home). Offering him a fruit-type snack, like grapes, peaches, etc... at a strategic time , can be helpful.

My children's decision to "go or not go" at someone's home, usually involved either: Lack of fan, location of bathroom to other parts of home ("Can people hear me????"), a poor lock, or dirty bathroom. I could NEVER get my kids to go to a gas station bathroom in an emergency, when they were young!

Funny thing is ... With one of my good friends, we used to laugh about this. Whenever my children and I would go to visit, my daughter "had" to go to the bathroom, immediately. Pretty smells, candles, a nice picture, and good privacy, in my friend's bathroom was just what my daughter desired!

Maybe try giving him a little step stool to rest his feet upon when he is on the toilet. He might need to push his feet on something to get things going.

When my son was younger he would NEVER poop anywhere but home. One day when he was six he came home from school and told me he had pooped at school!! That was the end of that phase, now he will poop anywhere!
