Hi moms,

Has anyone gone through the child support process? I started my child support process in February of 2007, meaning I went to the office and started the application. It is an intrastate case and they have submitted all the paperwork to my children's father. My children's father has received all the paperwork but what I am wondering is how long does this process takes until my children start receiving compensation? If he has received his paperwork and has started the process on his end what is the hold up? Does anyone have any idea on how this works? in the meantime I am over hear struggling with his 2 children making ends meet with no support for over 4 years. Any advice? Thanks.

What can I do next?

Frances,

I'm not sure I can offer a ton of advice. My experience didn't involve intrastate support, but it was a bit complex as my case involved both a divorce and the Order for Support. Not to mention that my ex didn't want to contribute. I started the process in Feb. 1997 and because it involved divorce proceedings, they did it all in one shot which took a bit longer. The case took exactly one year for me, but it may be sooner for you if all that's involved is the support order. My friend just went through the process and hers only took a few weeks. Once they notify the employer of the Order to Withhold, it does take about 4-6 weeks to get the first check. I do wish u luck. I know how hard it is to feed, clothe, shelter and educate a child on your own as I've been doing just that for the past 10 years- with only occasional checks from my ex of course. He finds ways to buck the system and avoid contributing, but in the end, it's his loss = not ours. Good luck to you. Let us know how it all works out!

I feel your pain. My childrens father left last September, 3 months after I had our second child. I immediately got a lawyer to attempt to get child support, half of daycare expenses and half of all the medical bills for the birth of the baby back. Here I am a year later still going back and forth with the courts and his lawyer. I owe my lawyer $11,000 from all the court costs etc.. Given the chance to do it again i would just support the kids myself and not even atttempt to get child support.By the way I still have not seen a penny from him. better luck to you

It shouldn't have taken more than a month or two to set up and he will owe you for the back child support. Since it can come right out of his paycheck there is NO reason why you shouldn't be getting the money, other than he has not proceeded with the paperwork at work. Call Child Support Reinforcement, be sure you have your case number/custody orders in front of you. If you know where he works be sure and have all that information too. Good luck, let us know how it goes....*HUG*

well, have you gone to court yet, once you go to court his job will get a court order to take th money from his chek, then they send it ti the state disbursment unit, then they send it to you, this should only take about 2 months, no less this is afer the court though. you can chek on the internet your case and see if his job has been ordered yet,it will say how much he has been order to pay. good luck!!!

Good Luck with that case.I am a single mother of 2 kids myself. I took my ex to get him from child support. it took almost all together about a year.I understand you perfectly about wanting help. I remember going to hearings with my ex and all he did was talk so bad about me not letting him see our kids. The Judge was rough but it was over in about 2 or 3 hearings but i wish you the best of luck.i have custody of my 2 kids. Oh ya don't let them mess you up on what your kids deserve money wise. my kids get 95 dollars every 2 weeks and it isn't much for 9 and 8 year old. Good luck

Sadly, you are not alone in this fight against fathers unwilling to support their children. Every situation is a different situation. I have been divorce and had an order to withold for almost a year now, but my ex keeps jumping from job to job, so just about the time that I start receiving money on a regular basis he has quit and gone to another job which means that I have to get a new order of witholding drawn up and sent to his job, nothing but time and money. Once his employer starts deducting the money is should take about 2-4 weeks for you to start getting the money. I would make sure that the order of witholding is sent to his employer and not to him.

It isn't fair that we have to struggle to take care of our kids, but stay strong and things will work out for you in the end. I'm not sure how old your kids are, or if you have daycare expenses, but there are things out there for single parents that offer help to people who don't necessarily qualify for state help.

Good luck and keep your chin up! :)
