Chick Lit like Jennifer Weiner???

Does anyone know a good author to read that's similar to Jennifer Weiner (in her shoes, good in bed etc). I really enjoy her reading, though sometimes predictable I find her characters realistic. She's a "chick literature" writter Thanks much!

Sophie Kinsella is fabulous! She wrote the Shopaholic series. You have to love Becky Bloomwood. Also- Jen Lancaster- she wrote an autobiographical account on getting fired and being unemployed post 9/11 called Bitter is the New Black. HILARIOUS!!!She just came out with a new one Bright Lights Big Ass that I haven't had a chance to read yet but the reviews are fantastic. She lives here in Chicago and runs a blog at http://www.jennsylvania.com/ She's sassy, sarcastic, and so funny. I promise you'll laugh out loud at her books. In fact Jennifer Weiner's reviews of her blog and book got me to read Bitter and I loved it. Stacey Ballis is wonderful although a bit predictable. The Stephanie Plum books are great. Melanie Lynn Hauser wrote a couple very funny books called Confessions of Super Mom and Super Monm Saves the World. Happy reading!

I haven't read Jennifer Weiner to know how this compares, but I really like Jodi Picoult. My Sisters Keeper was very good and everyone I talk to seems to get hooked on her books.

Never read Jennifer Weiner, but am putting her on my list to check out at the library.

For chick lit, I just finished and really enjoyed "The Bright Side of Disaster" by Katherine Center and "Citizen Girl" and "Dedication" both by Emma McLaughlin and Nicola Kraus (the authors of The Nanny Diaries).

Jan Karon also writes a series about a minister that are really sweet and easy to read. And the Miss Julia series by Ann B Ross is also sweet.

Thanks for asking the question. I created quite a list based on the responses you received'!

Could you read Diana Gabaldon? She's good too. She writes fiction with a bit of adventure, romance, and time travel.

Janet Evanovich did a series called "Stephanie Plum" About a kooky bounty hunter chick. It's a series that keeps you laughing out loud. My husband threw me out of the room once for laughing too loudly he couldn't hear the TV. HAHA
Start with "One for the Money"

There is 13 in the series and 2 between the numbers books and I believe she's releasing one more in January.
I loved the series. You could easily read one book a day. They are really hard to put down.

I just read a few books - Bitter is the new black by Jen Lancaster. Her other book (which I did not read) is called Bright Lights, Big Ass: A Self-Indulgent, Surly, Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why it Often Sucks in the City, or Who are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door to Me? Both of her books are based on Chicago - which is fun if you're familar with the city. HOWEVER, if you're easily offended by politically incorrect commentary this book is not for you. The author manages to insult almost every race, creed, gender through her sarcastic distorted sense of reality which sometimes I found myself relating to. Also Laurie Natoro has written several good books - one of them is appropriate for this time of the year An Idiot Girl's Christmas: True Tales from the Top of the Naughty List. Good luck

I LOVE Marian Keyes ~ her books are hilarious. Also, Jane Green and Emily Griffin.

I have all of Jennifer Weiner's books, and I too was looking for someone similar since she doesn't have anything new out. I have heard that she is working on something new. I will be interested to read the others suggestions.

Try Cara Lockwood or Sophie Kinsella. Both are great.

I guess I've burned out on the "chick lit" versions of novels and went to Frank E. Peretti, author of (House (new movie), Monster, Piercing the Darkness, The Visitation (movie), This Present Darkness, The Oath). He's got the drama, action, highs and lows and spiritual and christian beliefs. An entire perspective that keeps your eyes glued to the book to find out what will happen next. I call Mr Peretti the "stephen king version of christian writing". Very talented and as noted above he has 2 movies out based upon his books. There is Janette Oke, famous for the "Love Comes Softly" stories and series, even featured on television. So if you do a google search with the author you mentioned, you may come across similar authors to fill your reading craving. My sympathies on Barney. My 4 yr old is into Wiggles, Blues Clues, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. At least I have SOME variety. God bless and good luck in your search.
