Cheerios,teething Biscuits and Snacking

My son is almost 10 months old and I think he's ready for cheerios. Is there a special type of cheerio I'm supposed to get?? Are there special infant cheerios or do I just get the cereal in the box? Also, I got him those "biter biscuits" but they are SO messy. Is there a better cracker or biscuit any of you can recommend? He really likes the Natural puffy cheetos I get from Whole Foods but I don't want him having too much of those as I doubt they are very nutritional. Is there a yummy nutritional teething type snack I can give him?? Baby carrots are too hard and when I give him slices of melon to chew on, he'll bite off too big of a piece and I haved to dig it out of his mouth for fear that he'll swallow it. I'm looking for a good snack that he can hold and chew....and that is nutritional and not so messy. Does it even exist??? :)

ps- yes I have the mesh feeder. he gets frustrated with it.

What can I do next?

Believe me when I say, "We tried them all". Here's what I think is best:

- Multi-grain Cheerios (they dissolve better cuz they don't have that coating stuff on them)

- Puffed fruit and veggies

- All the 'teething' bisquits scared me to death.. he'd get them just goopy enough to bite off half of them into his mouth, and I'd have to go fish it out.

- I can find them in the 'ethnic' section of the grocery store, but look for the tiny little pastas... cook them very soft, then just use one of your jarred veggies or something as a sauce on them. This was a huge hit with Kamden (now 14 mo)

- Grated apple. This is still one of Kamden's most favority things to eat. Make sure and still peel it until he's ready for that. Also, if your grated pieces are too long, just run a knife through it to make it smaller. It's great practice for him.

- Any of your soft fruits. We love mangos for this. Cut them into tiny pieces. If he has trouble picking them up, roll them through some yogurt, and then baby powder oatmeal or rice. It makes it much easier. It'll get you goopy, but he'll love it.

- One of his favorite things now (at 14 mo) is when mommy has Crispix cereal, he gets some of it in his own bowl once it's softened from the milk, and literally attacks it as it hits the bowl.

Let me know if you need any more ideas... I've spent hours and hours researching food and nutrition for the little man... ____@____.com.

Hey Alex!
Stefan LOVES the cherios from whole foods. He has been eating them for about a month. I will put some on his high chair while I am preparing his food and he loves them! I also give him raisins that are broken in half. I took baby CPR yesterday, and they said NOT to give grapes. If you get any other good ideas from your posting let me know!

Hey Alex it's A.. Tania told me you hired her. That's great!

We've been feeding our 9mo the wheat Cheerios w/o honey, the puffs of all flavors, the dissolvable fruit, and Gold Fish (wheat). I pretty much let him try anything on my plate that doesn't contain too much dairy, honey, or nuts.

my daughter loves the fruit puffs by gerber. They come in a great to go can so you can throw them in your diaper bag and take them anywhere! They have all kinds of flavors too. She also eats plain old saltine crackers! I don't know about cheerios because I haven't tried them yet but the fruit puffs are definately a winner!!!

Hey Alex Congrats on the move, I can't wait to see ya'll again:)

Plain cheerios is what is suggested and I beleive Little Graduates has different kinds of puffs and they aren't messy and they are dissolvable, they come in different flavors(corn, sweet potatoes, strawberry banana, apple) so far Karson loves them all.
If you need any other ideas please let me know.
By the way hope you had a TERRIFIC Birthday:)

Hope this helps.

I started getting my son Farley's Rusks. They are actually a British baby teething biscuit. They sell them in Kroger in the import British food section. They can be a bit messy, but he loves them and they are made especially for babies and toddlers and are packed with nutrients they need. Other than that he likes regular Cheerios and his favorite crackers are Ritz Veggie crackers. You can also buy the Fig Newton mini packs that are handy to take on the go. My son likes the strawberry flavored ones. Good luck.
