My husband and I have our ten year ann. coming up a year from May. I would like to plan a small and fairly cheap getaway. It needs to be fairly cheap because I am a stay at home mom and we are planning and big family trip for the following Dec. I am looking for some ideas.

What can I do next?

I think what is important is that it includes something for both of you, women tend to want romance and men like action or something like that. Hotels can be expensive but think about renting a house its cheaper and more intimate and convenient. good luck and congrats....

To make good suggestions we need to know what part of the country you are from to know what is close.

My husband and I spent our 20th anniversary in Branson! It was fabulous! We stayed at a Bed and Breakfast http://www.camerons-crag.com/ , which we had never done before, went on the Branson Belle, outlet mall shopping, and just spent some wonderful time together. It was nearby, not very expensive, and romantic.

I don't know what you consider to be cheap, but time away is always priceless. You have some time to save up a bit for the trip. My husband and I just got back from a Sybaris resort. It was $650.00 for two nights, but that included bath robes and a bottle of champagne both nights. If you have never heard of them, check out the website at www.sybaris.com. We had the best time and I would recommend it to anyone!!

I have read the responds to your question and I think they give some great advice. I would say check your local area. Most locals areas have wonderful things to do that we never think about until we have out of town or out of state guess. You have a lot of time to think and plan, think about what is inportant to each of you, what were some of the things you love to do as a young couple do them again, redo your vows if hubby will go along with it. Most of all enjoy your time together replaying the wonders of your ten year together and do a little dreaming of the next ten.

Try Eureka Springs Arkansas. It is a quiet little town, and there is a Best Western there that on the internet is like 70.00 a night. It is nice with a heated pool and a hot tub. You can ride the trolley to downtown Eureka and shop and get your pictures made in Old time attire. It isn't pricey either. You can research it on the internet. We went and had a blast. We went back and got married there, and then went to visit one more time again just to visit the town. lol

If you live near a Bass Pro Shop, you might try what my hubby and I did a few months ago. They sell 3 day trips to Branson, MO there...of course you have to go to a Timeshare sales pitch which lasts about an hour and a half. But it was very low-pressure and it was worth it to get the cheap price. We paid $250 and stayed 4 days/3 nights at Big Cedar Lodge. Plus we got $200 in "Cedar Bucks" which can be used anywhere on the resort...like restaurants or massages. The place was sooo nice and there's no way we could have been able to afford to go there otherwise. We were originally kinda scared it was going to be a scam or something. We had never done any of the sales trip things or anything, but it was the best trip we've been on! The resort's website is http://www.bigcedar.com/ and you can buy the trips at a booth inside any Bass Pro Shop near the registers.

My husband and I also spent our anniversary in Branson. I loved it. He planned it all secretly and we got in the car and I had no idea where we were going! We went on the Branson Belle (dinner tickets are worth the upgrade for the private dining) and shopping. We loved it so much and had so much fun we took our child and my mom and her family back the next month....

We always end up going to Branson, MO. There is a nice place called the Bradford Inn that sits up on a hilltop that has a beautiful view the rooms are reasonbly priced and the breakfast that is included is wonderful. It's not your typical B&B which is what we like. Plus we are able to do a little bit of shopping at the outlets.

Hi! If the train runs close to your town take a cheap train ride down the line and stay the weekend. We live 2.5 hours from New Orleans so we watch the prices and ride from N.O. to Memphis for the weekend. Its fun and cheap! We always get a cheap room from Hotwire usualy under $50. Our last trip was only $200, train and hotel included.

I don't no where you live, but, you should look into your own state or city welcome center. I am in Louisiana, and there are many places a person can tour, have a picnic, stay over night, for a very reasonable price. Also, when I want to plan a special weekend that doesn't cost a lot, we go to New Orleans, rent a room, get cheaper rates from internet, and just walk around and tour the beauty that is right here around us. I hope this helps. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!

What about renewing your vows in Eureka Springs? They have weekend packages with the cottage, champagne and everything included for like $300 to start and they can go up to $500.

This is a little unusual. I am also a stay at home mom of two and on months when money has become a little tight I barter. I did some mild physical labor for my chiropractor in exchange for two free adjustments. I've exchanged babysitting for a haircut. I even exchanged doing a little painting for a massage. Perhaps if there is a nice B&B or some other quaint destination you'd like to go to you can go talk with the owners, tell them your financial pinch and ask if there is any type of work or other arangement that you could come to to either cover or offset the cost. Be creative. Offer to turn your car into a billboard for a few weeks. It works... just muster a little courage and try it. :)

A wonderful getaway is Eureka Springs, Arkansas and the Rock Cottage Gardens. It is wonderful. Five unique cottages with fireplaces and jacuzzis. A wonderful breakfast each morning. Eureka Springs is a great small town with shops, antiques, shows, etc. I think there is a website. A great getaway and very reasonable.

Go get an inexpensive hotel room nearby. Go early and decorate it, bring some candles some sexy music on a cd, whatever ya'll drink bring 2 crystal glasses, Make some good eats and have them there. The Dollar Stores have great things get some red materials see thru stuff and drape it over the lamps. Maybe a rose or two and sprinkle them on the bed.bring some perfume and spray it in the room. blinfold him and bring him there. Or you can even do this at home. call a friend to see if they will babysit or family and have a night alone. ALWAYS TRY TO HAVE A FUN NIGHT ALONE EVERY MONTH EVEN IF ITS POPCORN AND A MOVIE. Good Luck

My darling hubby and I try to get away about once a quarter. We love Kansas city because it is close to tulsa. Just about 3 1/2 hours on hwy 169. there is a good outlet mall in Olathe,(conventiently located at the end of 169 lol). there are casinos, shopping, etc but most of all relaxing time alone. Try for weekend specials at Business hotels. they are usually nicer and cheap on the weekends when the focas of their business is gone. We love the Sheraton at OVerland Park convention center. We have stayed there many times for less than half of the weekday cost. Most of all have a great time.

There is also a great B&B in Johnson Arkansas which is estentially fayetteville. so only a couple of hours away . it is called the Mill. Has a great resturant, lovely rooms etc. worth checking out.

State parks offer cabins and lodges at a very reasonable price. Some even have restaurants on site. Most have websites for information and reservations. Close to home, but NOT home.

HI H.. That sounds very romantic and what a lovely thing for you two to be able to do. I don't know where you live, but I love to go to a town south of us in Huntsville, Al where there is an old mansion converted to a hotel. We stay there and drive around to the vineyards in the area. There are lovely ones in Tennessee also. B&B's are relatively cheap and, on the whole, are fairly romantic. If you are near a beach, now is a prime time to go as it will be low season (except on the East coast)and a weekend condo rental might be a possibility. Hope this helps. Have a lovely time.

Gatlinburg, TN. and agree to go on a time share viewing. They pay your hotel and give you gift cards for dinner. We just got back from a mini vacation and were not planning on attending one of these it takes about 90 minutes and all you have to do is keep saying NO. The best part was in 6 months they are giving us 2 days 3 nights somewhere else. If you are interested I can give you the name of the area where they cornered my husband into this. Also if you travel during the week rooms are very cheap 25-35 per night. Good luck.

My favorite getaway that hubby I took was to Eureka Springs last year for Valentine's day. We booked this beautiful little cottage called Home Suite Home. It's not in the historic part of town... but it's built in this really cool old one-room school house... and it was so comfortable. It has a small kitchen, so we were able to make most of our meals there. Although, we did have one nice dinner out. Spent most of the time relaxing and window shopping. Didn't spend a whole lot of money... and by the time Sunday morning rolled around, we had a really hard time leaving.

I can usually get a cheap getaway just about anywhere with priceline. My husband and I usually use priceline if we don't care where we're spending the night but we have a destination that we want to go to for things to do (for just us or family trips). If we want a romantic weekend getaway, we usually look up hotels, B&B's, lodges, etc with whirlpool tubs or hot tubs, then we try to look up deals for a couple of those places online and go with the cheapest one. We don't usually care about the location as much as the hotel at that point. There's usually SOMEthing to do semi-close for when we want to get out, but we usually like to just stay in most of the time, and just get out for meals. We take cards, a few games, some candles, bath stuff, and a cooler filled with drinks and stuff for breakfast and lunch, that way we only have to pay for dinners out (or order in).

Send me a message if you'd like some help.

We have a family of 6 and just got back yesterday from a family trip to Orlando that cost us just under $2500. That included food (also Arabian Knight tickets - 4), airline tickets (for the whole family), 7 day Disney tickets (2 adults 2 kids - base, not park hopper...not needed for our trip), 4 Universal 2 day Islands of adventure tickets, and 2 Holy Land Experience tickets, rental cars, shuttles services and tips AND accommodations. (Souvenirs cost an extra $300, but that was money that came from Granny and Grandma for everyone for Valentine's Day and it was supposed to all be spent on souvenirs).

I just search the internet over for the absolute best deals on everything. I'm a SAHM with 4 kids, and we live on an extremely tight budget. This was the biggest trip we've ever taken. We usually drive everywhere, but we found such great deals for flying for this trip and took them. We all went to DC, PA, & NY City last summer for a wedding and made it a 12 day trip and only spent about $1000 on that trip (everything included - w/ gas). One of the biggest keys is bringing your OWN food for most of the meals and only dining out once a day at the most. We never stay in hotels or suites that aren't a 3 or 4 star, either. We always have very nice accommodation's. We stayed in resorts and a 4 points Sheraton at Universal this past trip, and our last trip we stayed at only Marriots for the 11 nights. Priceline's awesome!, and when I don't get from priceline, I find awesome deals online for (including attractions and dining coupons).

HTH! Let me know if I can help any further.
