Cheap Drugstore Diapers

My favorite diapers were the Costco brand. Next to that, Pampers Swaddlers/Cruisers. It is worth the money to me. I tried the cheaper diapers as I too was always pinching pennies. But, they just weren't worth the extra laundry loads and stress to me.

It has been a very long time since I was in need of this information, so I went online and found.. diapers.com. You can order lots of different brands at "discount" prices and some of them ship for free.. Maybe the brand and style she uses are available at a discount...

You make a good point about, how to find out what is going to fit this child without having to spend a fortune and have wasted diapers left over.. Maybe contact some of the manufacturers and ask them if they ever send free samples..

I switched to cloth when my second was born and haven't bought another disposable. We had our third baby a few months ago, and he wears the diapers the first one used (since the first is potty learned now). Not only do I not buy diapers at all anymore, I only have about 1 bag of garbage a week for a family of 4 plus baby.

And I still manage to do the laundry that I need to do, despite having 3 kids under 4!

It is a large initial investment but the savings in the long run are great. I use many different kinds, but a couple that are easy to get, easy to use, and fit most babies are Bum Genius and Fuzzi Bunz. For the cheapest, old fashioned "prefold" diapers or flat diapers are the way to go.

And while daycares often don't allow them, there is no law stating they can't use them (I've heard some say it is a health code violation, but it is not - I've looked it up!). I think if the daycare could see how easy diapers like Bum Genius and Fuzzi Bunz are they would be willing t allow it.

The basic store brands; Target, Kroger, Babies 'R Us,... are all pretty much the same. They even have the same customer service number. I've tried them and they stink. Yes, I am a Pampers Cruisers mom.

However, I have tried the Costco diapers and they are not all that bad! I LOVE the wipes as well. Yes, you do have to buy a bunch but you cannot beat the price. If the baby grows out of them, sell them on Craig's List or EBay. At least you can re coupe some of the money and put it toward the next size.

On another note...

If money is super tight, they have come a LONG WAY with cloth diapers. I have friends that swear by the Bum Genius cloth diapers. This may be a good alternative, even while at home only (or whatever works)

Well if you can get your hands on the white cloud brand anywhere, they were really great for me and super cheap. Like $16 for 92 diapers. They were so nice bc they were nice and thin like huggies and luvs but so much cheaper. But Wal-mart doesn't carry them anymore in my area and I haven't seen them at any other stores. But they were sooooo great. So now I am using Parent's Choice from Wal-mart. They are around $13 for 80 diapers so I guess around 16 cents or so per diaper. They are thick and the don't fit around the legs the same way that luvs do, but my baby doesn't seem to mind and we do ok. We do have a few more naptime leaks though. I go back and forth between them and luvs which are also reasonably priced at Wal-mart. Best of luck, I am going to be sooooooo happy when we are out of diapers from a cost standpoint. Good luck!

I use the HEB premium diapers. They come in the mostly blue package. They are great and have not had any problems with them. I even use the overnight. They hold up and I only change him when I need to. Which is not often.

Hi K.! I did name brand everything with my first two children. My third came along and tired of being robbed I started using Walmart diapers and even their formula. The diapers are great. I have even used HEB's brand and they are great too. I took the Walmart formula along with Similac to my pediatrician and he compared them side by side and said that they are the same thing. My baby is now two and he did just fine on the Walmart brand. Good luck!

50 cents for a diaper?! OUCH! I am always on the lookout for bargains and never pay full price. For infants, I loved the Pampers Swaddlers and always bought them when they were on sale and when I had great coupons so I always saved a good deal of $$. I stocked up way before I gave birth to my last two babies. As my babies got older (I have three kids and my youngest is now 6 1/2 mo old), I use Luvs diapers and always had great success with them (I heard somewhere that Pampers actually makes the Luvs diapers but I haven't confirmed that yet). I buy them in the bulk box at HEB or Target, and again, I buy them when they are on sale and when I have coupons. When I do find diapers on sale, I buy lots of them - the current size plus the next size since I know the baby is going to grow up. :>)

As for how many diapers a kid goes through in a day, it really depends on how much they are eating, what their movements are like, etc.

I haven't used the store brands diapers so I can't give you an opinion on those. Personally, I can get diapers for less than 20 cents each and I know you can too. :>)

If you do buy a drugstore brand diaper and they don't work out, just call the customer service phone # on the package and tell them (tactfully of course) why those diapers didn't work out. They will usually compensate you somehow with coupons, refund, etc.

Certain diapers are more successful with certain body types. The cheap ones (I tried Costco and grocery store brands) never seemed to fit my daughter snug enough. We had lots of leaks and explosions, stained clothes. I used Luv's brand, which weren't as expensive as Huggies and Pampers, but you have to buy them at Target instead of grocery stores.

I've heard that cloth diapers are less expensive over the long run, however most daycares will not allow cloth diapers.

I was a big proponent of buying bulk. They go through 6-8 diapers a day... And as a FT working mom with a husband who travels, I didn't want to be running to the store for diapers and formula.

I used the Walgreens brand diapers when we were in a pinch and thought they worked great. The only generics that I really ever had a major problem with were the ones they sold on the PX on army bases. They were horrible, but that was like 10 years ago...

I used Luvs brand on all 3 of my chldren but different brands work for different children. sometimes you get what you pay for.

Walmart brand works just fine. I do like pampers swadlers when they are really little.

Try LUVS my sister in law loved them but I am a pampers Girl so I say Cruise On .... LOVE THEM you get what you pay for most times

My son long time out of diapers now is 9 was very comfy wearing the house brand from WalMart.I too would buy the name brand and it got expensive after while.I broke down and tried those from WollyWorld and surprisingly they held pretty darn good.Sooo if they still make them the way they were 6 yrs ago i could recommend those.

we get costco brand, they are great. we haven't had any problems! i know you have to get a million at a time, but you'll use them! we use the same amount of these as we did w/ the name brand. in fact, the name brand diapers made my son break out terribly! they put something in them, aloe, scent, something. we never figured out why, but w/in 2 namebrand diapers he had terrible screaming, pulling at his diaper. then w/in 2 costco diapers it was gone.
w/ our daughter we continue to use the costco diapers, and we've even used HEB. the HEB are not as flexible and we've had a few leaks, so we stayed w/ costco.

I use the Parents Choice from Walmart and love them. I think they cost about 20 cents each give or take a penny. A box of size 5 has a qty of 80 and they are not made of that cheap plastic that tears easily. They are definitely durable and "hold their own". I am so glad a friend introduced them to me a baby ago, on my 2nd child using them.

I have a 16 month old. I completely understand the expense of diapers and trying to stay on a budget. But...I have tried every single type of diaper from Pampers to Target brand and some other store generic brands.

I am sad to say the only diaper which honestly holds EVERYTHING is Pampers. I have had more leakage of urine and bowel movements in other diapers that Pampers is worth the cost. You make up for it with saving on having to buy clothes which were ruined b/c of leakages.

I like the Walgreens green packs. I also found HEB and Kroger diapers to be good. I cloth diaper, and only use disposables on outings. There are a great variety of cloth diapers, that you could check out too. I love it! Good luck!
