Is there a magic website or phone number out there for cheap car rentals. These prices are suprising me lately. I have already spent $800 on plane tickets, $450 on hotel, and now they seem to be raising car prices so high. Prices are just getting crazy to take a trip to see my brother!

Just thought someone might know a secret I don't!

TIA!

We use Thrifty but, we have a corporate account linked with our company. We have Corporate accounts for hotels as well. Hubby dies the traveling and I do all the financials, travel arranging, etc.

I personally do not use discounters for anything.

Don't sign up for the extras offered, especially insurance. Your car insurance will cover you if there is an issue. Make sure you get unlimited miles and drop off at the same location as pickup.

I've rented at least 5 cars using this site, all over the country. They only use the major companies (Enterprise, Hertz, Avis, etc.) You don't find out until you pay what company they will assign to you, but it doesn't really matter, because like I said, it's all the biggies. I've not found any other site that beats them in price.

All of the car rental rates at the airport are way out of line on cost--they have to add extra fees for the privilege and space at the airport. You might google cheap car rentals and the city you are going to and you will probably get quite a few that pop up. Does the hotel have a shuttle from the airport?? Take the shuttle and have the rental car company pick you up at the hotel. (they are not allowed to infringe on an airport vendor) See if there is an Enterprise Leasing in the town where you are going. They are always emailing me cheap deals especially for weekend rentals. Or can your brother pick you up at the airport and drop you off at one of the low cost car rental places?? Have a good trip!

Use Priceline or Hotwire or one of those services. Often there are deals when you book hotel, flight and car together. Also, if you have a AAA membership, they have discounts.

Hotwire.com is excellent. I've never rented a car through them, but I do the hotels and have never been disappointed. In our town there's a "RentaWreck" and they have a website. I don't know if it's just a local thing, but there may be something like that at a town you're traveling to. You could check online and see if you can find a site. It's a small outfit. The cars aren't "new car smell", but they're nice and it's not expensive compared to other rental places.
