Chapped Skin - Lynden,WA

Never heard Vaseline makes it worse, in fact we just got over a yucky snot nose cold where we had to use Vaseline. I just used it a bit after each nose wipe and before bed I washed his face and applied a little then too. It worked great. We also used a bit of lotion (fragrance and dye free) after bath time. He had snot nose so bad his cheeks were getting chapped.

Also, using puffs with lotion can ease the redness.

Aquaphor! My daughter has ezcema and we use tons of this stuff. She had a cold and the horrible red chapped nose....aquaphor cleared it up in a day or two. Fantastic Stuff.

Also Lansinoh for breastfeeding works wonders for little noses! It's soooo thick & stays moisturized between wiping! Hope the baby feels better soon!

I've always used Vaseline or Aquaphor on my kiddos' noses without any problems. If it's pretty chapped, I put a little Neosporin on first to avoid any infections, and then the Vaseline or Aquaphor over it. If I remember to do it at night, especially, it's really effective. My little girl 16 months has the same constant runny nose. I use Shea butter, It works well and is all natural, no funky hard to read ingredients, just Shea butter.

The brand I have is L'occitane and was a gift to me and kind of expensive I think. I am sure you could get something less expensive that will work the same.

we've been using neosporin lip therapy on my dd's lips and under her nose when it gets chapped from being runny. It works like a charm.

They're a little spendy, and they won't get rid of chapped skin but they WILL be more soothing than regular kleenex--Boogie Wipes! They are premoistened with saline (I think) and are really great when there is lots of nose wiping going on. They come in individual packets as well as a small size package, much like baby wipes, but specifically for noses that are sore and crusty. You can find them at Target, or I'm sure there are lots of on-line sources.

Don't use tissues they are full of chemicals. Use a soft dry washcloth instead.
Calendula cream will help.

If you or your baby are allergic to wool, do not use lanolin. Aquaphor is a wonder cream! It works quickly....highly recommend it. I don't know what makes it different from Vaseline (it looks just like it), but you will find yourself using it for everything (good barrier for sore bottoms with diaper rash, chapped lips, cuts that dry out and become painful.....)

I swear by lanolin nipple cream for breastfeeding mothers. It works ten times better than vaseline and it is safe to ingest so no worries about it getting into their mouth. It is pretty expensive if you dont have any on hand but this cream works for everything from chapped skin to protecting and helping to heal a diaper rash and even a drool rash on little babies. I even use it on little areas on my hands that crack and bleed sometimes in the cold weather. It will actually last through a bunch of hand washes too so it is really good stuff to help block out or keep in moisture.

Aquaphor did not work for my kids...it's mineral oil and just covers the problem.

My daughter had a nasty cold about 2 weeks ago. Her poor nose and cheeks were badly chapped. I bought vaseline and used it. Within 2 days it was better and gone within the week. Just make sure you use a small amount and nothing into her nose.

I use/used Chapstick. Of course I throw it away once it is better:-)

I use Aquaphor for chapped hands and noses in the winter. I put it one the kids at bedtime, and the red dry skin is gone by morning.

Oh man do we deal with sore, chapped skin around here! I have one daughter with sensitive skin and another with eczema! What I suggest for chapped skin is one of two creams - Barrier Cream, found in the baby department with the diaper cream, it isn't a diaper cream but it does work to help soothe the skin. The other is Glaxal Base cream, it's completely fragrance free and soothing.

Then the best thing is to apply it at bedtime, this way they are asleep and it can do the job without being rubbed off immediately. We also used cut up receiving blankets to wipe their noses. You can wash them right away ( I wouldn't use the same one all day) but it's way gentler than a tissue. We always say "Hold still please, Mommy with be gentle" and wipe really slowly. Holding their tiny heads still to do it quick ends up being rough. Sometimes that unavoidable but slow and careful helps keep the ouchie away.
