Changing Table

Does anyone have advice on what to do to distract a one year old when changing a diaper or dressing her on a changing table? It has become quite frustrating even changing my daughter's diaper. She constantly turns over on her tummy and will cry or protest when I turn her back. Help!

I have given her various toys to hold, her hairbrush (she ends up putting it in her mouth) and I sing songs. Nothing seems to work. Advice please! Thank you.

What can I do next?

I used to put a sticker on each of my daughter's hands. That distracted her enough for me to change her diaper without her squirming. I found that toys, singing didn't work after a certain age. Try the stickers. My cell phone would work too if I didn't have any stickers, but I prefered the stickers.

You can also use folded scotch tape as a distraction.

When my grandchildren got this wiggly I switched to changing them on the bed or floor. Once they were able to stand I frequently changed them standing up. It does take practice to do this quickly but it sure was easier once I'd figured it out.

If you're worried about her falling off, I'd just ditch the table and put her on the floor with a changing mat or towel.

We have a changing pad that has a strap to help hold the child in place. It works wonderfully!

1st baby got changed every single time on the changing table in the nursery, with a bowl of warm water and clean wash cloth and cloth diapers, 3rd baby got changed on any available floor space with baby wipes and pampers!
