your pharmacist should tell you what is safe and what isnt.

I got like 4 UTI's while I was pregnant with my son. He was leaning heavily on my right kidney and I was having some emptying problems because of it. Each time my doctors put me on macrobid which is safe during pregnany. Most antibiotcs are safe during pregnancy but if you're really concerned you should give your doc a call.

Ampcillin is in the same group as penicillin and considered safe during pregnancy. Cranberry juice(100% juice like Northland and Adam and Eve are two major brands that I know of. The juice cocktails, like Ocean Spray contain corn syrup which tends to feed the infection), or concentrated cranberry tablets(you can get them at walmart, or a drug store) work wonders for UTI's. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child(i have 5 now, lol) I had a bad UTI, and the cranberry was the only thing that worked.
Hope you feel better,

Firstly...get Cranberry juice (as much % juice as you can, Ocean Spray is a good choice) and drink it in large amounts. (replace about 1/2 of your day's water with it if you can)
Secondly, did your OB doc prescribe this? If so, it's likely safe during pregnancy. Perhaps call another doc's office and ask for a second opinion if you don't trust your own doctor, but if you don't trust your doc, you should find one you DO.
good luck!

Hi M.!
Unfortunately during both of my pregnancies I had to deal with many bouts with kidney stones, hospitalizations and UTIs due to the kidney issues. I was on Cephalexin for the last 3 months of my 2nd pregnancy, and somewhere along the line with my 1st and 2nd pregnancies I also took Ampicilin. For reassurance you should call your OB. As far as what I was told, you should not take sulfur drugs during pregnancy, but that is what would normally be prescribed if you were not pregnant or nursing. Hope this helps, and I hope you feel better soon!

Hi M.,
Personally, I would use homeopathy like Pulsatilla. Granted, I've never had a UTI and don't know how serious yours is. I have a friend who's also pregnant, and the Pulsatilla worked wonders. Try to speak to a homeopath or naturopath if you feel comfortable and grab a copy of 'Everybody's Guide to Homeopathic Medicines' by Cummings and Ullman. It will offer different remedies directly related to your specific symptoms.
Best,

I second the homeopathy suggestion- 100% safe during pregnancy- and have you been taking LOTS of probiotics? Tried cranberry juice? (not the sugary kind, the straight up concentrated cranberry with a non-sugar sweetener like stevia herb?- that usually helped me A LOT).
My biggest worry for you is that your body flora will be detrimentally effected by all the antibiotics. When you are pregnant and are higher in progesterone than estrogen, your body "climate" is already more conducive to negative flora, and antibiotics paves the way for yeast to florish... so get a really good probiotic to restore yourself. Our babies get their first dose of probiotics from whatever is residing in our body as they come out the vaginal canal, and making sure you have good bacteria means your babies chances for not getting things like thrush and colic will be better.
I've heard so many doctors say "oh, your body restores its flora by itself..." YEAH, but not necessarily in a positive way if you're not helping it by introducing good flora. That's why UTI's can be a recurring thing and yeast infections can too... because without all those good guys in there its so much easier to succumb again.

If it was not safe, your doctor would not have given it to
you.
