I have Celiac and I am the only one who follows a gluten free diet in my house. Just keep everything apart and he will be fine. It takes time to adjust because gluten is hidden in many things so you will have to read all food labels. I recommend getting the book "Gluten Free for Dummies". A great book to start with. Udi's bread is the best I have found and Glutino pretzels. As for baking I have found recipes that use almond flour taste the best. Betty Crockers cake mixes our really good also. For me adjusting was not that big of a deal but my sister had a harder time. I think it really depends on what you are use to. I was never a big pasta or bread person so that helped. Plus, we don't eat a lot of frozen, processed foods. Many stores have a list of gluten free foods on their websites. Before eating out check the resturants website for gluten free options. It is getting easier and more foods are being labeled. As for websites for Celiacs there are so many! I like elanaspantry.com for recipes and celiachandbook.com keeps you up to date on new information, products, articles etc.. I hope this helps.

Hi N.,

I grew up with Ulcerative Colitis (diagnosed at age 11 and 35 years later I figured it out!) which is akin to celiac. What the doctors don't tell you (probably because they don't know) is the intestinal tract can be healed just like any other part of the body. My UC is completely gone.

Just as an example. Fiber is terribly important to the health of the digestive system. It keeps the intestinal tract clean so it can't be diseased. Also Slippery Elm heals the digestive system from the esophagus to the anus. Gluten free diet is fine but i think a lot of problems with "gluten" is actually what is in the gluten.... If you'd like to talk, I'd be glad to.

God bless,

M.

She can have her own snacks just keep them away from daddy she isn't the one who has Celiac Disease so why punish her & the entire household. My lil sis has this & with diet changes has made a huge difference she shops at HY-Vee for gluten free items there are many everyday items we buy that are gluten free they either have been & are just now being labled or they have changed their ingredients to satisfy the consumers, many snack & desserts also shopping @ the health food mart. When she eats something that isn't a known trigger her stomach does & will casue her great pain. She knows what to eat & not eat but when your in a gathering it is hard to say no i'll have poops the entire night, her family knows & mom will often cook to her needs.

deliac.. lol. I have full blown celiacs disease, where the symptoms didnt really show until I was 12ish. I am doing fine now. I eat a strict gluten free diet and can function very well. At first the GF diet seems likely impossible, but it really isnt so hard. I had an inkling that I had celiacs disease when I was a teenager and I cut off all food and introduced them back to me on e at a time to target which food was causing my horrible pain. Well, the first day I ate nothing but taco shells, and I was fine. The next day, I ate a plain piece of bread and a 1/2 later went running to the bathroom. It was celiacs alright! GF for 10 years now and loving it!

Update- My husband and son are not gluten free, and I am just with living with them. As long as their gluten doesnt wind up in my mouth, my stomach is happy :) I can even prepare sandwiches for them without problem as long as i wash my hands afterwards. Tell your husband that having gluten in the house isnt going to make him worse as long as hes not the one eating it. Have you read 'the G Free diet' by elisabeth hasselbeck? Its a great book about her living with celiacs and living in a definitly NON celiac family. You and your husand should read it, its got great solutions on living the GF lifestyle in a non GF world
