My husband and I are looking into re-doing the carpeting in our home before our little one arrives in April. Has anyone used Luna or Home Depot for Carpet installation before? We used Empire at our last house and did not have a good experience. I'd like to hear about good and bad experiences.

What can I do next?

I have 2 friends that used Home Depot. One had a great experience and the other was not happy and made they send someone else out to correct it. It all depends on the people that actually do the installation. you can ask at the store exactly who will install and if you can get recommendations for the installers.

Hi there, My husband and I run a general contracting company, and the guys that we like are Exhibitors carpet. They're a mom and pop operation, and they really do a great job. ###-###-####

We just moved to the city from the suburbs and before we moved we recarpeted our old house and had great results with Empire (sorry to hear that you didn't). We also looked at Luna and the prices at Empire were much better. I do know that my brother and his wife used Home Depot to carpet their basement and were happy with the price and results. Hope this helps.

And congratulations on your little girl! How exciting - just a few more months!!

I would be concerned about the fumes of new carpeting. If it is possible, it might be better to just get your carpets cleaned. The chemicals and fumes in new carpeting last for 18 months, and with a little baby who will spend a very long time on the floor, her body will be exposed to a large amount of chemicals for such a little thing. Of course I understand that it seems more clean to have new carpeting, it just might be better to wait a year or so until she is walking and will not be as exposed.

Take care, and the best of luck with your little girl. Mine is two now, and she gets more and more fun each day.

I used Luna last year. The salesman was great, very helpful. The installers were rude and the work was not that great. I can see one seam very clearly. I have heard great things about Home Depot's carpet intallers. I think you get the same carpet just about anywhere you go. I was 8 1/2 pregnant and I had a one year old running around, so I decided to have someone come to me. Good luck and Congratulations!

B., Stay away from these commercial carpet places. Spend a little more and go to a carpet store who has experienced carpet installers on the payroll. Not only will you get a better quality carpet and padding, but peace of mind. If you want to buy your carpeting from HD, find a qualified installer to do the work. HD sometimes has a list. GET REFERENCES!! Good luck! B.
