My nephew broke his foot yesterday. He's incredibly active and obsessed with sports. This injury will prevent him from playing basketball this winter, and he's very disappointed. We'll see him tomorrow at Thanksgiving. Does anyone have any creative ideas for a care/activity package that we could give him? I'd need to pick up the goods today, so online ordering isn't an option. Thanks!

If there ever was a time for the hand-held video games, this is it!

Does he have one? Talk to Mom and figure out which one he has and get him a special game.

We have had all of them and *my* favorite by far was the PSP...ya know you can watch movies on those things?

Poor buddy!

Poor thing.

Even if you get this late, there should be a corner drugstore, gas station mini mart or grocery store open you could pick up:

hand held little mini game
gum
beef jerky
Sport Illustrated magazine
Corssword puzzle book etc.

Since actually being active is not possible right now, does he like to read? I'd say books - maybe start Harry Potter? Comic books. Does he have a video game console - maybe a sports themed video game? How about a movie? Is he too old for Legos - maybe one of those extravagant sets that would take him a while to put together.

How about some magazines like Sports Illustrated for Kids (ages 6-12) or Boys Life, Boys Quest. Comic books that he likes. A book on his favorite athlete.
