Car Seats Question
how much do they have to weight to not be in a full booster seat car seat. I have a 5 year old who is pretty big and thinking of moving him to short small booster seat thing. The one that is only the bottom seat. Can we do that? He is 5, and 46 lbs.

It usually goes by height too, if he is tall enough(not sure of the hieght), then he can move, but there is no harm in waiting either, unless he exceeds the weight limit on your current carseat.

As I recall, a 5 year old doesn't even have to be in a car seat. You can just strap them in at this age. Atleast thats what the driving course instructor told me.

Loads of info there from child safety seat technicians. The best, safest thing to do is keep him in a five point harness as long as possible. Depending on his height, there are seats which will keep him strapped in until 65-80 lbs.

Can you legally, yes..should you, not really. But I would still have him in a 5 point harness carseat at this point for sure. But the booster seat with a back is safer than without for correct seat belt placement, as well as head protection in case of a crash. HTH ~A.~
