Car Seat Trouble

Hello All! Here I am again with another question for you great mama's! I have recently put my child in a booster seat with a back, and she loves it. My question is this: what do you do for longer trips when your child is sleeping in one of these? In her old convertable car seat, it had a larger area for her to rest her head. In the booster there is not quite a big enough area for her to really get comftorable. If anyone has any advise I would love to hear it! Thanks in advance!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank You to everyone for your advise. I want to stress that my child IS READY for the booster seat. I would NEVER put my child in danger by putting her in one to soon. She will be 3 in 3 months, I know they sugest waiting until 3 years old to put your child in a booster but my chid is big for her age and fits the height and weight requerments. I will try the neck pillow, hopfully helps.

We're taking our kids on an 1100+mile trip in two days. Our 5 year old is in a high back booster also without the comfort to lay her head down. What we're planning on using is her pillows with blankets placed underneath for bulk. What we have wished we would've picked up are the actual child travel pillows which you can find online and at many stores such as Babies r Us. We've also found that our daughter can make herself quite comfortable on her own so long as she is kept happy and for her that means having her ipod to listen to. Not sure if your little one can keep herself comfy too but it amazes me just how comfortable kids can make themselves in the car when us adults are anything but. Best of luck.

My granddaughter at that age still fell asleep. Sometimes she stayed upright. I don't know how. Other times she'd bend forward. I kept a pillow next to her and she would sometimes put it on her lap or I'd stop the car and put it on her lap. She slept soundly without any difficulty. If the seat is next to the door her head would sometimes slide to the side and rest against the car. She did this on short trips around town, too.

She didn't like the neck pillow.

Are you talking about the one that is almost 3 years old. If so. please put her back into a convertible car seat. I cannot stress how important it is for her to be in one. Keep them in a 5 point harness for as long as possible they truly safe lives! There is absolutely no reason for her to be in a full booster seat yet.

I know this is not what you wanted to hear but this is what you need to hear.

Now if you are talking about an older child that you do not have listed in your about me then disregard this message.

If you have a bigger three year old (over 40 pounds) a booster is the answer, but like the others said it's important to keep her in the 5-point harness until she's physically needing to go up - don't base it on age, but size.

If that's where she needs to be get a neck pillow. I was so excited to find these at Target - they have kid-sized ones!! Brightly colored and some of them have characters on them. Be sure she takes along a favorite blankie too for extra comfort. Make frequent stops and you shouldn't have a problem. Best of luck!!

The MINIMUM for putting a child ito a booster is 4 years AND 40 pounds AND 40 inches.

Younger children are not big enough nor mature enough to sit correctly each and every time they ride in the car.

In some states it's even illegal to use a booster seat for a child so young.

Please, please, please get your child an appropriately fitting harnessed seat. Check out car-seat.org for great information.
