I bought one called "baybee cool". It was about $60, which I think is expensive, however I use it everday. While I am at work, it sits in my son's carseat so when I pick him up in the aftenoon his carseat is cool. It has 2 big pockets for 2 big freezer packs that last all day. We are expecting again and I plan on buying another for this baby's carseat.

A lady here in Ahwatukee, AZ started making those Coldseats. It's def. got a use, but I just think she charges way too much for them. I bought those carseat covers mentioned (the Prince Lionheart ones). BabiesRUs used to carry them, but I ended up having to get them online - shop the web, as going direct to Prince Lionheart is possible, but you will pay more. My only complaint w/the carseat covers is that they are not long lasting; they tear easily. I have to get new ones every year.

When my kids were small we did not have this, it sounds sooo cool. I was always concerned with burning the kids with the metal part of the seat belt. So I found the solution for that....baby wipes. I always kept babywipes near by, it sucks the heat from the metal fast! Good luck

K.,
I don't have a cooler, but I have learned to keep two towels in the car, When I get the kids out age 6 and 2 1/2, I place a (beach) towel over their seats. It keeps the belts from getting to hot, and so far no burns on their legs or saying the chest belt is too hot as well. This works for us, as the towels never leave the van so I don't forget them.

I just saw one of those on craigs list. Look under baby and you might find it. It's obviously used so if you don't know if you want to spend the $$ on it I would look it up there.

I have seen those. I had always jut put the window shade over the car seat, however my SIL saw them and decided to make one. Its maily a smallish blanket with pockets to hold the frozen ice packs that they make for coolers. She made a small blanket that has four pockets. When ever she gets ready to go she puts the ice packs into the pockets, puts tht in the car first and then loads the car. (With a 2 yr old sometimes it takes a bit) By the time J gets in the car the seat is cooled off.
In Arizona I think its a really neat idea. It depends on how much you want to spend honestly. You can buy one new or come up with an alternative if your not crafty. I think its a nice addition but not something I "NEEDED".

We lived in Tucson when my son was born. We always used a blanket or baby quilt to cover his seat.

the coolers might work but try this: take a wet towel and depending how long before you go outside to actually put your child in the seat the towel can be sopping wet
I would do this right before you get your baby ready--take and run outside and put the towel on the car seat and as you are putting your child in the seat take it off if it really wet if it just sort of damp it would not hurt to leave it there. I do not have AC in my car and I always have a towel in my car wet in case I get stopped for traffic and can't be moving and I am sure it save me from getting sick a few times.
to tell you the truth I am so glad I do not have babes in car seats in this weather.
