For almost a week I cannot sleep restfully through the night. Either I toss and turn or I wake up and lay there for two hours. does anyone know of something that will help? I know there is stress in my life right now and cutting that out would help... That will happen next week lol.

What can I do next?

Melatonin ... my doctor told me 5 mg and it worked for a long time. Now, it's not working so well again and I'm on a prescription medication. Talk to the pharmacist about other recommendations.

I have used Melatonin. I only used it for one or two nights, but it worked fine.

Also Turkey contans a sleep aid called seretonin. No, I don't recommend you take two turkeys and call me in the morning. (LOL) But eating a turkey dinnner is what causes everyone to take a huge nap right after dinner. Having a turkey sandwich or so for dinner would probably help.

Good luck to you and yours.

Exercise every morning, eat properly, drink water, go to bed at the same time every night, no TV or backlit screens 30 minutes before bed. Take a 3mg melatonin with valerian root extract in it and hop in the shower. Then finish your bedtime routine and go lie down. Be sure it's cool enough (as cood as you can stand, but be sure to have enough blankets). I keep my room at 67'F.

Sleep tight!

Oh, and only take the melatonin for a couple of nights. Just to get your body back into rhythm. It's really not meant to be taken every night.

I've started taking melatonin (4mg) a half hour before I want to go to bed at night -- it's working wonderfully. I used to take tylenol pm or a shot of nyquil... but I knew if wasn't good for me so I decided to take the natural route after my son's ped told me it was safe to give to him once in a while.

The melatonin works great and I don't have trouble waking up in the morning and don't have that medication hangover feeling either.

Cut out any red dye, soda or caffeine. Are you a smoker? This could be keeping you up at night. Take a warm bath and some studies suggest no tv. For me, working out, a shower and then an hour of TV and I'm ready for bed! But I find every one in awhile that there are nights I toss and turn. I agree with getting up after an hour. Read, do dishes, watch tv, etc...Then try to lay back down. I have heard GREAT things about Melatonin...but I also watched a Dr. Oz show on it saying the amount women should take is like .5 mg or something...so MOST women are taking way too much to FALL asleep...and that is not good. Not saying people shouldn't take it (I know a lot of people who do) but just make sure you do your research first. Have you tried Hylands brand sleeping pills? Over the counter.

Good luck!

I like melatonin. Start with 3 mgs and you can go up to 5 mgs before you should consult your doctor. It's in the vitamin section. I have severe insomnia and it even helps me. I guess Doctor Oz did a show about it recently and he was recommending the liquid form over the pill because it's more effective. My doctor was talking about that. I haven't tried the liquid yet though apparently you can take it closer to bedtime which with the tablet I've been told and found to be true that you should take it about 3 hours before bed. But I've had no side effects and it's not addictive so I'd really recommend it. I've been taking it for about a year now. I must say it's far better in my opinion than Ambien which comes with a host of problems.

Don't lay there for hours. If your still awake after an hour, get up and do something for a half hour and try again.

I take 1 Unisom a night. I have for about a year now but I do go periods of time without taking anything just to be sure that I still CAN fall asleep without help. It's non-habit forming and doesn't make me groggy in the a.m.

I have been hearing a lot of people with sleeping problems in the last week. Barometric pressure maybe? Full moon? Regardless... Exercise helps and sunshine (or light) therapy. The body's internal clock is helped by sunshine each day to tell it when it is day and night. I will be buying a light box for our family this winter when days are short and many times cloudy. I was told they help with sleep patterns and with S.A.D. Good luck!

Eating a turkey sandwich will not help. Turkey has trytophan which helps the seratonin levels in the brain but it can take days to work.

Try drinking a cup of Sandman tea by Stash, hard to find but available on their website, or Sleepytime tea. I also read that popcorn has sleep inducing something. Sorry I can't remember exactly what it was.

Meditating before bed will help to slow down your brain. A good work out 3 times a week will also help to increase endorphins and release adrenalin which builds up in times of stress and prevents us from sleeping.

Are you taking any new meds? I have several meds that make me stay awake. Like certain antibiotics and an acid reducer.
