Canister Vacuum Cleaner

Hi ladies,

I am looking for a new canister vacuum cleaner. We have mainly hard wood floor, except the bedrooms. A relative highly recommended a Miele; she has hers for about 20 years and is still happy with it. The brand is very expensive, the model I looked at is Neptune s4212, price $499 (outch!). Is there any thing else you would recommend? I do prefer a canister one.
Thanks a lot!

What can I do next?

I love my kenmore. I had one for over 15 years and am now on my second one only due to the wheels finally breaking off to the point where it couldnt be fixed. I got them both at sears and bought the maintenance deal they have which cleans and changes the filters and bags for you once or twice a year. That alone is deal because the filters can be pricey. The first one I had was around $400 dollars but this time around I went for the $250 model and I have been just as happy. This one is smaller so it was easier for the stairs. Hope this helps.

we love our dyson, but if you dont have much carpet, I wouldnt spend that much. We had a nice hoover windtunnel that lasted 5 or so years (and only died when I accidentally hit it with my car after my husband put it in the garage when he was pulling stuff out of the closet under the stairs for Christmas) and did very well. It wasnt one of the super expensive ones but it kept our house well vacuumed. I dont recommend getting one of the really expensive ones if you dont have a ton of carpeting.

I'm with you on the canister vacuums! I have had mine since 1988 and the second one since 1998. They both still work perfectly! They are Kenmore (Sears) Best. I've just had to change the belts in the carpet attachment (they're like $5 each) and the light bulbs when they burnt out. Best wishes and God Bless!

When I was vacuum shopping I think Dyson was the only maker that still had a canister in their product line. We bought a Dyson upright and we love it.

My vacuum repair lady fixes my Dyson for me (not very often, I admit), but she always says that NOTHING goes wrong on a Miele. It may be a case of you get what you pay for when it comes to vacuums.

Love my dyson, but I dont' think it would last that long! It's 8 yrs old and had to be tuned up once (300.00). still going, however the repair guy recommended the miele over ANY OTHER .... good product if you have the money!

I have a Dyson. It is the best $500 I have ever spent. I have not used a broom since I got it. Hint: they sell it at Kohls & you can use the %off coupons for it. I had a 30% coupon & they let me use it:)

Hi M.!

My mom got her Miele refurbished and saved lots of money! She loves it so you may want to look into that option!

Also, I know Consumer Reports top rated canister vacuum was not the Miele, but I cannot remember the brand that top ranked. If you or someone you know has access to Consumer Reports, you can look at what they recommend as well!

P.S. - This is not just for you but for anyone reading this! I just learned this about a year ago, but ALL vacuums need routine maintenance once a year in order to get longevity out of them! I didn't know that!

God's Grace to you,

Lisa Crane :)
