Can Someone with Limited Motion Do Yoga?

I am interested in doing Yoga for the relaxation benefits and also as a work out. I have had my right hip replaced twice so I do have limited motion. Would yoga be right for me? I'd like any tips on where to go and if you can relate to my situation. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Aaron, I commend you for trying to find a form of exercise that will help not harm you. I have some issues with my back, hips and neck (not surgical) that I must address when undertaking any form of exercise. I'd like to reccomend Meghan Campbell of CAE Yoga. Her studio is located on Brown & Recker Roads in Mesa. Check out her website CAEyoga.com for contact information. She will conduct an initial session where she does a complete evaluation for any injurys, etc., before you undertake a class. She can work with you one-on-one, as well as, in a group. She is extremely knowledgable about injurys and specializes in rehabilitative yoga. I have been going to her for over a year, and she has helped me so much. If you speak to her, please mention my name, so she know how you heard of her.

Best wishes!

Yes, anyone can practice. Be sure to find a well-qualified and knowledgeable teacher. Try Inner Vision Yoga in Chandler.

Hi there,
I would suggest trying Tai Chi or Qi Gong (sp?) rather than yoga. A lot of yoga is spent in positions that bend at the hips so you might not enjoy it so much.

The other two that I mentioned are very relaxing and also increase balance, flexibility and general well-being. There are lots of DVDs on these to try. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Aaron,
Gilbert Yoga also has some classes that would fit you (such as gentle yoga). It just south of Gilbert and Elliot. The website is www.gilbertyoga.com.

Yes, there is a good yoga class for everyone, whether it be breath work, strengthening yoga, or a detoxifying yoga. For you, a gentle yoga class sounds like it would be a good fit.
If you're near Chandler, I know Life Sculpting has one, www.lifesculpting.biz.
