Can Anyone Recommend a Midwife?
I am a little late in my search, sue in 8 weeks, but I am unhappy with my OB/GYN. My visits with them last less than 3 minutes and it takes me 40 minutes to get to their office! And at my last visit they asked me if I wanted to discuss induction since I am due around the holidays. Since I gave birth to my daughter naturally, I wanted to do the same with this baby, but am fearing all the hospital interventions will overtake me this time around. (I delivered at Good Sam and wouldn't mind doing so agan with a midwife.) Any advice or recommendations? I'm getting a little panicky at this point.....

There are several practices that have a midwife on staff, but it's hard to make sure they are the one who will deliver you. You might have better success going with a doula who can help you have your child naturally at the hospital and be your advocate.
Sometimes having a baby due around the holidays is rough. The staff suggests the induction route so they can have as little interuption as possible during their holidays, and to be honest most people don't seem to mind. Just stick to your guns and tell them that you would like to have this baby naturally, like your last, and that you would rather not be induced. As long as you and the baby are healthy, there is no need to be induced.

i don't have a midwife recommendation, but i would definately agree that you should trust your instincts... i had 2 boys with a ob/gyn practice that only delivers @ Good Sam -- first experience was fine, the 2nd turned into a bit of a nightmare (first with attempts to convince me that i needed to be induced, eventually with an emergency c-section & followed with a month of struggles with infection)---
i have heard that there are at least a few docs that will accept late patient transfers, especially when your not satified with your current doctor... good luck finding a midwife & a plan that you're comfortable with!

I'm sorry I can't recommend a midwife but I just want to say to stick to what you want, R.. Do not let the doctors strong-arm you into induction or anything else. I had both my sons at home with a midwife (this was in England) and not only were both births great, the midwives were empowering, smart, and intuitive. Giving birth is your time, not anyone else's. I applaud you for putting your request out to have the sort of birth experience you want. Keep asking, go online, call the hospitals, get in touch with some dulas... Best of luck to you. G.
