My 12 month old son is a very picky eater and I am worried that he is not getting all of his proper nutrients. I was thinking of putting him on a multi vitamin. I was thinking flintstons vitamins at frist, but then read that they are recommended for 2-3 year olds. Anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

We have used Shaklee vitamins for 5 years now they are great. Finstones don't compare at all. They are m ore like candy.

Shaklee has a powder vitamin for the younger kids that you can add into water or juice, not recommended with milk. then when they get older 2+ they can start taking the chewable ones

Here is the link to the powder.

Find a shaklee rep as they have a powdered multivitamin that you can mix in their drink. It is very good and has a lot of vitamins and so on that they need.

My 18 month old and 31/2 year old take juice plus gummies. They are delivered to our house and are made from fruits and vegetables. They are all natural and taste better than gummie candies. They are pricey, so I try to resist eating them myself! My youngest one was closer to 15 months when I started giving them, and I cut them in half. They are soft, but she was a late teether.

My pediatrician perscribed a vitamin once my daughter turned 6 months. It's a multivitamin with flouride and it's a perscription (only costs a couple dollars for a couple months supply which is actually probably cheaper than the over the counter ones).

Flinstone vitamins have lead and aspartame in them. Have you asked your doctor about a vitamin supplement? I used Juice Plus on my son at that age. You have to purchase it through a dealer and it's kind of expensive but it's worth it. I believe it actually increased my son's appetite for healthy foods.

Oh, and I am saying this out of sheer love for the product......I don't sell Juice Plus! :)

My children were raised taking Shaklee vitamins and my soon to be first grandchld will be raised taking Shaklee vitamins. My kids went from being chronically sick and in the doctors office monthly to rarely being sick and going to the doctor once of year for a physical.

I also gave my one year old vitamins it was an liquid oral vitamin that you can buy you have to ask for it at the persciption counter and check with your Peditrician first it has alot of iron in it and will constipate your child. I stopped using after a few months because it smells really bad and tastes bad and my child then refused to take it.

The gummy vitamins usually have a dosage for younger kids. I usually break my hard vitamins in half though because the gummy vitamins I used to get do not contain any iron and have less amounts of minerals and vitamins in. My toddler is also a great chewer and has never had any problems biting down on hard stuff and choking.

I always try to control their diet to give the best possible outcome but the toddler age is such a picky-eater phase that I like the extra insurance of iron fortified vitamins. I just get the cheap Flintstones alternative from Sams Club. Also if you get vitamins with fluoride, check that you don't have fluoride in your water. You don't want to double dose or it will affect her teeth negatively.

The best thing to do in this case would be to talk to your son's doctor. They know more about vitamins and medication then we will; for example, when I was my kids' age, if I had a cold, mom gave me Triamenic (sp?) but now, it's unsafe to give it to my kids because they are under six. I'd also look into pediasure. Good luck

Shaklee is the leader in natural supplements. You can find them at http://www.shaklee.net/healthforlife
They made a tremendous difference for my boys.
Stay away from store brands. Also, in liquid vitamins, the the vitamin C starts to oxidize as soon as you open the bottle.

Hi there.
This is the one my kids take. It is an isotonix which means that it's a powder and when mixed with water it becomes the same consistancy as your blood, sweat and tears. It's absorbed into the body immediately. It's the best delivery system out there. It tastes like the St Josph's baby asprins....do you remember those? It's orangy. My kids love it and it really keeps them healthy.

I wouldn't give my 12 mo old a chewable yet b/c they can be tough to bite down on and I wouldn't want her choking on it. We started at 18mo with my first child when the pediatrician recommended it and upon comparing labels, I went for the store brand over brand name.

You really want a WHOLE-FOOD vitamin. A synthetic vitamin will not be absorbed and/or used-well by his body.
I, personally, like Animal Parade vitamins by Nature's Plus. You can find them at any health food store.
If you can't find that brand, then go to your local health food store or the natural section of your local grocery store (most of them have a section now) & get a good, whole food vitamin. Just look at the ingredients before you purchase it. If it lists food, herbs, etc... (ie: rose hips, kelp, etc....) & is lacking artifical colors, flavoring & preservatives then you know it's a good one.
Hope that helps!

As another mom said, I also give my son Polysivol, per my pediatrician's recommendation. There was a younger version (i think it was called Tryvisol) for when he was under 12 mos, but once he turned 1, we switched to the Polysivol. The nurse at my pediatrician's office told me recently that the recommended amount of Vitamin D was just upped for toddlers, so the docs will be recommending vitamins for many more toddlers and infants that before.
