Can Anyone Recommend a Good Bed?

We are planning to buy a new king or queen size bed in the next week or so and have no idea where to start. We currently have just a cheap 175 dollar mattress that is horrible. We would prefer not to spend over 1000. We don't need it to address any specific "needs" other than not having our backs ache in the morning :) Any suggestions?? Thx!

Just a suggestion, even if you find the bed of your dreams on the sales floor and its over your budget, ask if you can buy the floor model. We did that once and we saved a few hundred dollars. We have a tempurpedic because my husband moves around a lot but I cannot feel a thing. It was very expensive, but I do not regret spending the extra money one bit. We have a joke that if we had to leave our home and we could only take one thing, it would be the bed! Haa haa! Good luck!

some of the big mattress stores are doing that program where you pay not interest for one year etc so that might be an idea. also, since the economy is so bad, seems like stores are cutting deals esp at the end of the year when new models come in :)

This is really a hard one to answer... I would recommend a sleep number bed simply because you and your husband probably have different levels of firmness in mind... your bodies are different so why would you have the same level needed. You'll have to actually LAY on them for a bit in the showroom before purchasing. I could tell you the one we have and we like, but it would not be good for tummy sleepers as it's too soft... my granny's bed is too hard for a side sleeper but great for tummy and back sleepers... see how that could complicate things? :) lol

We love beautyrest... but the best idea is to go to a bed store and lay on a bunch. (You can also go to their outlet, where they're selling one off's -returned in the first 30 days, discontinued, etc... and save hundreds-thousands).

A trick, btw, if there are different firmness levels between you and hubby, is to buy a sheet of plywood and place it between the mattress and the box spring on the side that needs to be firmer.
