Can Anyone Help

I am a repeated miscarrier. Just had my 3rd to be exact. After the second one I went through a series of blood test and found out that I had a folic defiency and a clotting disorder. I have been treating that with aspirin and extra folic acid as requested by the doctor. So when we got pregnant again we was so excited. The doctor was so sure that there would not be any problems this time because we had been treating the only problem found. Unfortunalty I lost this one, I made it one week longer than the last 2 times. I had the hysterosalpingogram done and everything came back normal. Are there any other test that I should ask for? The doctor says that I am not infertile because I have delivered one child before. Any advice is welcome and appreciated. I am at witts end with losses.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?™

Thank you everyone for your responses. I have had my horomone levels checked several times and they all come back great. I had the HSG done and it came back normal, no scar tissue or blockages in the tubes or ovaries. I am currently awaiting the results of my Kariotyping that I had done. I am hoping that we can find other test to do. Any additional help is appreciated. The clotting disorder that I have is MetroPetraHydro Folate Reductase Defiency.

I had 3 miscarriages & 1 successful pregnancy as well. All tests ruled out physical problems. Doctor suggested reducing stress, which meant filin for disability to get a leave of absence from work. The fertility specialist also prescribed progesterone for my first trimester. Now I have 2 kids from 2 successful pregnancies. Good luck.

Hang in there. I had one (without any problems) followed by 3 miscarriages and then another. I know it can be so incredibly hard (I cried many tears) but you can have another baby. You have to believe that. When I had my 3d miscarriage and then my second full term pregnancy I was living in London under the care of one of the leading miscarriage specialists in the world (Professor Lesley Regan-she has written books you can probably find). However, she could find nothing wrong with me and to this day, I have no idea why I miscarried! I did take low dose aspirin throughout my 2nd pregnancy though (and it is 100% safe, it does not cross the placenta). While I was in Charlotte (with the first two miscarriages) I was treated at a clinic called "REACH". You should definitely make an appointment there, they are experts and hopefully they can help you. GOOD LUCK!

Bless your heart. I cannot imagine the pain and my heart goes out to you. Breathe, Sweetheart...

Ok, now for my two cents... I agree with the person who said to switch from asprin to the prescription thing -- ask your doctor about that one. I have always heard that you DO NOT take asprin when you are pregnant... Also, how much caffeine are you getting, that has been known to cause miscarriages too... I would limit that as well or try to do without.

I was married for 10 years and tried to have children, with no success at all. I finally got divorced and moved on with my life for many reasons. I was 38 and I figured having children was a dream I would never know. Four years ago, I met the man of my dreams and remarried, I immediately got pregnant! At 42! and had my first child a couple of weeks before my 43rd birthday! She is healthy, happy and most certainly my miracle! I never dreamed it could happen to me at that point! And now, I am pregnant again at 45 with another healthy baby! I am stunned, thrilled, amazed, BUT my point here is that I was finally happy in my life and when that happened, everything came together. All the medicine in the world can't cure the causes of stress. (My "stress" was the ex, yours is probably something altogether different, but stress nonetheless...)

So, try to relax. Put your feet up more and breathe in the miracles of your life. Albert Einstein said you can look at the world as though nothing is a miracle, or as though everything is a miracle... it's your choice.

Don't get discouraged. (There may have been a very good reason those pregnancies did not work out.) And remember to breathe! Take care of yourself! Love yourself, your husband and your son, and your "miracle" will happen.

Hey M.,

How did you concieve the first time?? Perhaps the timing is just not right and God is trying to tell you that. You've got to trust that God will bless you when the time is right, IF the time is right. The really is a plan and He is the only one that knows it. Best to you and God will bless!

I know this will sound crazy, but have your doctor check for gluten intolerance/celiac. One of the problems that gluten intolerance can cause is miscarriages. With my second child I went into preterm labor, although I had no risk factors. I later found out that I was gluten intolerant. I hope you find the answers you are looking for. I will be praying for you and your family.

I know about this one. For the folic acid be sure you are on the prenatal Neevo, which is designed for people with MHTFR. You should also likely be taking Lovenox instead of asprin. A referral to a hematologist or genetic counselor is likely in order. Most of this genetic stuff is really new and many doctors dont know exactly how to treat it, you may want to find another doctor who has more experience. There are some boards for women with genetic disorders that could help you, try googling your specific genetic variant and you will find more information or even a doctor.

Im so sorry for the pain you are in now. There are other avenues of treatment so dont give up!

Which clotting disorder do you have? There are quite a lot, and which one makes a difference in your treatment during pregnancy.

My sister has one called Leiden Factor 5 mutation. She had to take prescription blood thinner injections during her whole pregnancy. Aspirin was NOT recommended. And there are other things that can cause your blood levels to be off. Potassium (vit K) is something that affects her type of mutation. She cannot take a prenatal vit because it has vit K in it. She also has to avoid foods that contain it, along with a few other things like soy and green tea. You really need to see a hematologist and find out what ways your disorder will affect a pregnancy. She saw a hematologist and a high-risk ob-gyn for her pregnancy. And sometimes their opinions differed widely so she had to do a lot of research and then make her decisions on what she thought was best. She carried to full term with no problems, but that was due to the care of specialists and knowledge of her disorder. Lots of regular ob-gyns have very little knowledge of clotting disorders, and they are very often the cause of miscarriages.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I have had two myself, so I know how hard they are. But talk to the doctors, they know a lot now about what you can do to prevent them if they know the cause. Good luck.

Just want to second the hormone levels!

Dr. Lee said that repeat miscarriages in the first trimester are almost always due to a progesterone deficiency... there's just not enough to keep the body from shedding the endometrium when it's that time of the cycle.

I know it's heartbreaking, and I'm sorry for your loss. I could not imagine... But look at all these lovely stories that have been shared! There IS hope that you can have another happy healthy baby!!

First of all, I'm so sorry for your losses. I became pg after 17 months of trying only to have it end in a blighted ovum. I was devastated. But then I turned to Traditional Chinese Medicine (accupuncture, herbs, etc) and became pg with my son just 4 months after I started. I suffered a second miscarriage last month 2 days after seeing a h/b. I'm gutted again, but have decided to turn to TCM again. It was such a wonderful, positive experience the first time. And it can be used on conjuction with Western medicine.

Hope this helps.
