Cake for Party
My son is turning 5 and is having a Texas Rangers Baseball party. He wants a cake in the shape of a jersey w/ Ian Kinsler's name and #5 on it. Found a bakery, but they charge $60 for the cake.....too much for us! Any suggestions? We live in Murphy and I don't want to drive more than 6 or 7 miles....

Hi J.,
I have a friend that does amazing cakes. I think a b/day is around 30-40 dollars. She is excellent. And will often drop it off. You should send her an e-mail.
Her name is Kristen and her husband is Jared. They work together.

Hi J. - You may try the Albertson's in Murphy (if you haven't already). They made some really cute baseball cupcakes for my son's birthday about a month ago. I gave them a vague description of what I was wanting and they far exceeded my expectations. They seem to be good at creating things from scratch there. I'm not sure of the guy's name that helped me but he was an older gentleman - very helpful. It may depend on who is there when you go but maybe they can help. Good luck!

I second Kroger's at Eldorado and Lake Forest in Mckinney. They recently did two cakes for me (a Hawaiian Luau theme and a Cowboy theme) that they freehanded and they turned out awesome and so cute and they were really good too.

Have you tried Annie's Bakery in the same shopping center at Albertson's in Murphy? I've had cake from there and it's great! I actually just ordered my little boy's first birthday cake from there too.

If you are a Sam's Club member, they make great cakes-- and if you take an item or picture in of what you're wanting they will do that on the cake for you! (AND the cakes are SUPER CHEAP-- I think an entire sheet cake-- HUGE is like $28-30)!!
Also, check at party city or hobby lobby or michael's for the cake pans that are jersey (t-shirt) shaped.

J.,
Cakes are very easy to make...just make you a large rectangle cake and then cut it in the shape of jersey...you may even be able to buy a cake pan in that shape already. Then you just have to ice it and write on it...the whole cake might run you about $10...
I don't every buy birthday cakes...I just make my own. I have made a princess cake, hello kitty, and this year tinkerbell.
Good luck.
