I had a c-section about 5 wks ago and Ive been having a pain, not like bad enough to make me cry but i defiantly know the pain is there because it hurts a little. and its in one little spot on my right side of my c-section scar. now there is what looks like maybe 1 stitch one the inside but they used i think its called durabond (surgical glue). i went t for my checkup and he said the incision site looks wonderful and healing great. I just don't wanna over react to the little bit of pain i am having i just am wondering what exactly could be causing the pain, any suggestions or comments would be wonderful Thanks!

I have had two c-sections, I wouldn't wish them on my worst enemy! You will get "phantom" pains around the incision because of the healing nerves. As time goes on, you will also get itchy spots. As long as they said it looks fine, it's nothing to worry about. Just take some motrin an take it easy. It will take a long time to be completely back to normal, and even then you will find the occasional oddball thing. I still have a spot that gets horribly itchy and I was told it is just the messed up nerves. My last c-section was 3 years ago.

Sweety, if the pain feels unnatural or scary to you, then you cannot possibly be overreacting to the pain by telling your doctor about it. A C-section is a serious surgery. If something doesn't FEEL right, then it doesn't matter how proud the doctor is about how nicely he stitched you up!
Don't worry about his ego. Pain can be a signal that something isn't quite right. Or it can just be part of the process...but you will never know unless you open your mouth and say someting. PLEASE talk to your doctor!

Hugs,
Syl

Hi, I had 3 c-section and i can related to some of the pain you been thur and it does take a while to heal because inside of the scar take longer than the outside and taking medicatoin can reduced the pain. I usually take a very warm bath and lay in it and massage my incision and it help relieve the pain. Good luck to you...:)

pain is your body's way of telling you something is wrong- pay attention, not normal- did you tell your doc?
Tell him and give him a chance to handle it.
Are you putting vit E oil on the scar? Aloea? do, both
Pain tells you something- you are not over reactiong- you get a symptom you must handle it,k

I'm 5 weeks out for my C-section too. I can definitely relate. For me, my left side killed me for the first few weeks. I asked the nurse why and she told me that they make the incision tighter on the ends. Now I can still feel little twinges here and there... especially when I'm laying down or trying to get up from a seated position. I hope you feel better soon!

I had a c-section with my second child and the pain did last for a while. The more active I was the more pain I felt. I think it is normal especially since your dr. said the area was healing fine. It does take a while, mine took a couple of months before I did not feel anything anymore. I would say if it lasts longer than a few months to contact your dr. again to see if there is any scar tissue on the inside causing more pain. Hope this helps.

I am 9 weeks post c-section and I was also having the pain you are describing. That pain went away and I've also been massaging my scar to help break up the scar tissue. It felt like a rope under the skin, but is much better now. Hope this helps. Congrats on your new little one!

This is my second c-section and both times my scar has hurt. Stretching and wearing jeans that rubbed against it hurt. Give it a couple of weeks and maybe put some vitamin 3 oil on it. Vitamin E helps soften scars and take some sting out.

Also, take it easy with the bending down.

I am almost 2 months and my scar is starting to feel better, I just started doing household chores and wearing different jeans while out and comfortable pants when home.

I had my c-section two years. I still get itchiness and sometimes pain as it can take a lifetime for the nerves to heal back together, if at all.
My only concern would be possible adhesions. It is worth going back to your doctor and having him look again. Adhesions can cause complications with later pregnancies, although they are far less likely since you used the durabond.

You might want to ask about adhesions --- scar tissue that builds up. I am three years into this waiting for the irritating pain to go away ! I have heard that minor outpatient surgery can relieve it. I may schedule surgery soon.

Hi A.,
I had two c-sections, my first one was an emergency one and because I had one, I had a planned c-section with my second. The pain I had afterwards was like what you describe - it was on the right side too, towards the start of the scar (or then end - not sure how they made the cut). It was like a burning sensation with pain. Just in that one spot mostly. It took a while to stop, but it did last a while. I'd take motrin occasionally. The whole scar itself was also numb for a very long time. I had that same pain with both c-sections. It will stop and as long as your doctor says it looks good and checks you out, try to use motrin.

Good luck!

It could be scar tissue tightening up. Massage your scar regularly.

I also had the most terrible pain on the right side of my incision. When I finally got the bandages off it looked like the right side was cut a little further over than the left side. It took longer for that to feel better than the rest of the scar. I'm 7 months post c-cestion and I think just last month it finally felt "normal". I had the most bizarre tender & numb sensation for the longest time. I agree its probably normal but it never hurts to check with your doc. Good Luck!

Hi A.,

What you're describing sounds VERY familiar. I had a C-Section, and like you the right side looks different. Now I am all healed and that part of the scar still looks different. But I was told I had healed fine too. I also had pain for a while. Walking completely straight and walking up stairs and walking anywhere for an extended period took me some time to work up to. I definitely wasn't doing it at 5 weeks. So I would guess that what you're feeling is normal, but if you're concerned - call the doc. Also, that incision is more durable than you might think. My step-son fell on my abdomen while I was still healing - he weighed about 60 pounds at the time and fell from 3 feet higher than I was. I was initially traumatized because of the damage I assumed he had caused. But the doctor said it was all fine - no damage. I just thought that might make you feel better about how sturdy they can be - although I don't recommend testing it. :D

I think you are doing great! 5 weeks post op from c-section is just the beginnning of healing. Remember that a c-section is major surgery and it means cutting alot of layers of tissue inside. You are going to feel little spurts of twitches or pain here and there in the beginning. That's completely normal. I just had my 3rd and last c-section. Healing took awhile for all to go back to normal compared to the 1st and 2nd. Since they perform the c-section in the same spot everytime there will be scar tissue to get through. It's been almost 1 year and I can almost feel all the nerves mending again to it's normal state. I did make the attempt to not drive until the 2nd month post op just to assure proper healing on the inside. Honestly, don't be in a rush to get back to your normal routine. Let your body heal first then slowly get back into it. Oh, on my 3rd c-section I had a tubal ligation and noticed much more twitches/pain and recovery was alot longer. Hope this helps! Best of luck. :)

Hi A.,

Unfortunately I don't have the answer for you but wanted to add that your description is the same that I have been experiencing, same side too. I had my C-section over 2 yrs ago and the discomfort has diminished a lot but even at my annual check up, I was still feeling the pain. Sometimes I could sit down with jeans on and the pain would make me yelp, not to mention that relations were uncomfortable too. I trust this doesn't happen to you.
My doctor said that there is no solution. It is possible that the scar was cut too far down and/or stapled to close to the bone but they couldn't find anything even after a transvaginal ultrasound.

I would be very interested in others thoughts and experiences.
Best regards.

I have had two C-sections and I can't diagnose your particular pain, but I can tell you the nerves are healing now and that could be causing you pain. I had all sorts of pain all around the scar area for months. I had my last c-section 3.5 years ago and I have numbness in spots that I'm sure will be there forever. It's good that you had it checked and that it is healing well. I would go back to the Dr if it is affecting your daily life or starting to get worse. Good luck!
