Bye Bye Birth Control...

We are finished having children, and I am the one who has been on birth control. The pill, the sticks in your arms and now nuvaring... I'm tired of them. I THINK that they (esp. this Nuvaring) has caused me to be moodier, gaind weight, and have less sex drive... could just be turning 40 and being exhausted from sleep depriviation... however my loving husband has decided to get the big "V" yipppeeee.... Am I expecting too much to feel better after being done with all this BC? Thanks in advance for sharing!

What can I do next?

Nope. I took loestrin 24 for almost 3 yrs and kept telling my hubby it was the pill that made me feel like I was crazy-mood swings, sweats, weight gain,u name the symptom I had it-so finally wentt o the endrocronologist had series of blood work done-my hormones were so out of wack-His final diagnosis-Do not ever take the bc again-my body just did not agree. And i am wondering how i put up with it for that long-I feel so much better now. GOOD LUCK! L.

NO -you'll LOVE it! I hated and have always hated hormonal birth control, and my husband had a vasectomy last summer. It's been fantastic! Enjoy! Just be sure to continue something until the 2nd test of his shows he's only shooting blanks!

It could be a big boost to you emotionally and physically not to have to do hormones to control fertility. So you could notice an improvement in mood and energy. Be aware that you may also have entered the stage of life termed "perimenopause," which means your hormone production could be shifting/dropping. You're at an age where it simply becomes more necessary to get adequate rest, exercise, and focus on good food choices.

Totally! I never did well on BC of any sort and a lot of those symptoms went away when I quit. Of course, there could be other things, but it's worth a shot. I wouldn't use hormones again after having researched them. BTW, Dr. Abernathy down by Mile High does a great job. The 2 doctors I used to work for, the 2 doctors we go to now, plus my OB all recommend him. My husband has recommended him to friends considering snipping. Sorry I don't have a number. GL! Hope you feel better soon!

Oh I HATED Nuvaring.. it totally killed my sex drive.. Although I'm not running to bed every night I do have much more of a sex drive without Nuvaring. I did the copper IUD and I really like it.. Although your husband is getting the vasectomy so it's nothing to consider. My weight issues have not gotten better since getting off of hormonal BC, but I have battled my weight since I was 12 so it's just to be expected..

I stopped taking birth control about 6 months ago, and feel a noticeable difference. I hate hormonal bc. It feels good to actually *want* sex once in a while now!!

My husband had a vasectomy after our second child was born and I have not taken birth control since it was confirmed a success. I personally feel less moody, and my sex drive has increased. I still have some mood swings but even my husband has noticed that I am more patient with everyone in general and have more tolerance when things don't go my way. Still tired as I work full time and have 2 youngsters but I'm guessing I'll catch up on sleep when they leave home.
