I have been having severe vaginal itching and burning for the past 3 months.Visits to my OB/GYN revealed BV the first time and then yeast and now she says she found Trich.I have tried clindesse( for BV) monistat and gynazole( for yeast) and now tindamax oral antibiotic for Trich but nothing seems to work.I feel better the first day after applying the Gels and seems to get better and then again it comes back.I have cut down a lot on sugars and watching what I eat but I am still not able to be itch free.I even tried yogurt douche as suggested by my OB/GYN.Does the oral medicine take a longer time to react in the body ? I am afraid to try anything on my own and cause more trouble.Any advise and suggestions would be of great help.I am not able to spend enough time with my 4 year old son who is speech delayed since this is driving me nuts!!!! Please help!

What can I do next?

for severe yeast try ticonazole ointment OTC. i use the generic form from wal-mart. it says one day treatment, but I use a smaller dose for a 3 day treatment. and my OB/GYN suggested that. I sometimes have to repeat the tube.
i also got caprylic acid and pro-biotics from the health food store for a 'natural' approach. i also don't like yogurt, hence oral pill pro-biotics. you can do a yogurt douche or a vinager douche for the yeast, but don't over do it with the douching.
i can also recommend icing your couchie. yes, an ice pack for a few minutes will help with the itching down there. ask how i know? come on.
there is also some azo-yeast homeopathic remedy also. i use it too.
my OB/GYN also said you can use hydrocortisone oint/cream on the outside and in the folds and general underwear area. just not vaginally. i like the oint better, and it takes away some of the itching and inflammation down there.
i also use desenex or dr scholls athelete's foot powder (NOT spray from a can) as dusting powder after my shower in my underwear, under arms, in bra and in belly button to prevent re-occurance.
i am a yeasty person and have been to two doctors with no real explanation, other than that is just the way I am, and some people just are. ANY time my system is stressed and or ill/sick i get a yeast infection somewhere. either a yeast rash, thrush(oral), or vaginal yeast infection. my primary recommends most of what i do and rarely prescribes DIFLUCAN orally because he says with how frequently i have yeast infections that the yeast can become resistant to the diflucan. what i do on a regular basis seems to help and keep me from getting them so badly or so frequently. I am not a diabetic and do limit sugar when possible. But i also know that when I am sick I start treating and prevent when I am healthy. the only prescription i have for yeast is mycelex troche for my mouth. as it is the hardes for me to get rid of.
i have been known to have 2 vaginal yeast infections a month. but have not had any since taking a more preventative approach. when i get them really bad then i go to the ob/gyn for some oral diflucan to get it under control and resort to that about 2 times a year or less.
good luck,
L.

After 3 months, I would be going insane!! If symptoms don't clear up after 7 days then something is going on. It's very easy to have a ping pong infection as someone said earlier from a mate/partner. Men refuse to believe that they too can have and pass on yeast infections. He needs to be treated as well to rule that out. I would also try the Diflucan which is oral or the Metronidazole vaginal gel that's inserted. For some relief instantly, try the Monistat or some other anti-itch cream that's applied topically. No powders, do not even use soap! Just water in that area for a few days so that the natural healthy cultures can restore themselves.

Hmmmm, the antibiotics they had you on probably made the yeast worse. I always get a bad yeast infection after being on antibiotics. I load up on probiotics and that helps sort me out. Get the strongest (most potent) ones you can find. Just eating yogurt will not usually work. Hope you get better soon!

I agree that he needs to be treated as well. Men are not aware that they can carry some of these infections because they have no symptoms. You can be passing it backa nd forth that way.

Also, everytime I take an antibiotic, I get a yeast infection. When I have to take an antibiotic, my Dr. ALWAYS prescribes the Diflucan (sp) and I take it the day I start antibiotics and have no problem.

I can't imaging an issue like that more than 3-7 days, much less 3 months....OUCH. I am prone to yeast and uti infections so I never take a bath (only shower) and after shower, I make sure I am totally dry before putting clothes on. Air out. I eat a lot of yogurt and rarely have an issue unless I am at the beach or on antibiotic.

Good luck!!

I think Trich is really hard to get rid of. I bet you and your husband are giving to each other back and forth. I kept having yeast after taking antibiotics, I kept using the stuff over the counter, taking acidophilus pills, taking only showers and drying my "area" with a hair dryer haha to make sure it was totally dry. I only wore cotton undies too. Someone said something about ice, that works for all sorts of issues, Interstitial Cystitis, UTI's, Yeast, Bacterial Infections.

You could try adding probiotics. It's a supplement you can buy at health food stores and it will add healthy bacterias back to your body and help keep the bad stuff in check. The only problem with probiotics would be if you have a dairy allergy, then you need to get a dairy free version. Metagenics makes high quality probiotics, available at many doctors offices (that's where I buy mine) and health food stores. Also, the reason why the probiotic is so important for you is because you have been taking abx - that just kills all the healthy bacteria (it can't tell the difference between good and bad bacteria), which is why your fungal/yeast issue is getting worse. The family of abx that the tindamax is in is a fairly heavy duty one. When I took an abx in that family, I ended up having to take a heavy duty anti-fungal (Diflucan) to get rid of the yeast problem.

Also, have they been treating your husband? He can be asymptomatic and be passing the bad stuff back to you (i.e., he could be a source of your fungal issues, etc.)
