I have used bumpers with all three of my kids but I tuck them down in the mattress a little so they can't push their leg through easily.

I don't understand what you're asking? Are you asking if one should use bumpers? Why should one use bumpers? Is what OK? What is not OK?
A baby can get their foot stuck both with and without bumpers in the crib?

they are okay, but once the baby become mobile, they need to be removed, as the baby can start to use it to climb, get tangled in them or even suffocate. Also, loose blankets, stuffed animals, pillows, are also nt safe to be in the bed with baby. If you do use bumpers, make sure that there is still good airflow with them, and always put your baby to sleep on his/her back.

If she is moving around, I would go with a breathable bumper.

We had bumpers... kiddo would still get his arms and legs stuck from time to time. Not at all when he was little, but a LOT between the age of 6mo-18mo. He'd either scoot his arm or leg under the durn things or over.
It wasn't bad enough to do the "sheet trick" like needed to be done with one of my siblings (king size sheet under the mattress... gets wrapped and pinned so it's impossible to get an arm or leg stuck)... but he'd still do it once a month or so.

A baby does NOT need bumpers in the crib. They look pretty and that's about it. Yank them OUT!

I had regular ones for my older child and got rid of them once he could pull up to standing. I have breathable ones for my second baby and she still has them in there at almost 2 years. I took down I side so she can see out though.

Breathable bumpers are the way to go. Baby won't get anything stuck thru the bars, if they sleep next to them they can breathe thru them and they can't be used to help climb out of the crib. They were the perfect solution when my little one got more mobile inthe crib and was getting her leg caught in the slats.
Old school bumper are a no-no-can't breathe thru them, baby can scootch under them making them a SIDS risk, baby can use them to boost up and climb out of crib. No good on any of those counts. Not sure why they even still get made or used.
