Bumpers

I agree with not using traditional bumper pads. I just want something that offers a little protection. I like the breathable baby concept but am worried about the airflow. Plus, I am really trying to use natural products, which brings me to another question. What are your thoughts on organic materials? I have been doing research and I was shocked to learn about all the chemicals that go into our baby products!! Organic is more expensive but seems with it.

What can I do next?

I'll probably get a lot of slack from everyone out there but I've used traditional bumpers with all three of my kids with no problems. Two of my kiddos have been real "movers" in their cribs and when I tried not using them, they were constantly getting legs and arms stuck in the slats. My daughter actually had a pretty bad bruise because of the way her leg was stuck and she tried to pull it back in herself. I do not let my kids "cry it out" so the bruise occured in the very short time it took me to make it down the hall and into her room. As far as organics go... I personally don't purchase any organic clothing or baby products. I would if I could, but I love being a stay at home mom and on one income it's just not an option for us. I just make sure I wash everything in Dreft right away before baby uses it and again, no problems. If you can afford it, go for it. Natural is always the best choice. Good luck to you!

I just did not use them personally.

I didn't use bumpers at all with either of my babies. They have both survived just fine.

As far as chemical/organic goes - a reasonable alternative is to simply buy second-hand clothes, bedding, etc. For the most part, these items have been washed enough times that the processing chemicals are gone. They cost less than organic. And, it's better for the environment to resuse.

Never used anything-- just not worth the risk. Never had a problem, except that the pacifier would fall out of the crib. So I just put several pacis in and let it go at that.

i used the crib tent 2 with my last 2 kids. its the best thing ever. i doubt it is organic. if they had an organic one now i would get it. no limbs get caught, no paci or toys or whatever falling out. its just a pain to change the sheets. so i layer them. i take the whole mattress out and layer sheet/pad 3 times. i would get the zip off sheets if i was doing it over. oh, and i had bumpers with my first child, they were so cute and he didnt roll anyway. and then one day i came in the room and his face was in the bumper, he was a baby and didnt have reverse yet, so he was just rebreathing for who knows how long. he was fine tG, but the bumpers went in the trash right then....

I used the traditional ones until my kids could move and then took them off. My daughter pretty much stayed put and rarely got herself caught in the slats so it was fine. My son however, was a maniac in there! I ended up buying a breathable bumper and it was awesome! I couldn't have slept without it b/c he was constantly getting hung up! If you don't care so much about the cutsie bumper stuff I'd just get a breathable one.
