Bumbo vs BebePod

I have reached the end of my shopping rope -- buying stuff for baby, then realizing it's not working for her, not quite right, something else is better. So I was hoping to get some hints here before my next purchase. Has anyone tried a Bumbo or BebePod seat? My little girl is 5 months, 17 pounds, and in the 90% for height. Thanks.

What can I do next?

I don't know much about the Bumbo but I had a Bebe Pod and i loved it!!! I used to feed my son, bathe him, play with him. He loved it as well!!! In fact my son is 10 months and I just got rid of it 2 weeks ago so I definitely got my use out of it.

At this point, I wouldn't spend the money... she will be sitting up on her own soon.... I bought a bumbo seat that was recommended by my friends when my daughter was 3 months and she never liked it (she is 6 months now and sits on her own - it was a waste of money for us, except that I can put her in it when I need to do something quick and want to know that she will stay put!) I heard the bebepod was even less comfortable.
Sorry - hope this helps and saves you a little $ - A.

If your baby is close to sitting up or already can, the bumbo wont work for you much longer. My little guy could get out of it as soon as he started sitting on his own. I am sure the same thing would happen with the bebe pod.

Hi M.,

I also debated this. However I didnt buy it because I thought it was too expensive. $40.00 is alot for a little chair to "help baby sit up".. and before I knew it my little one was sitting up pretty. She is always laying down on her tummy and then with in 2-4 seconds she is sitting up. Thats plenty of practice and good muscle exercise.

Hi M.

I cannot help you with the items you are asking about, but have you ever gone to www.babybargains.com and the message boards there? Moms are always giving info on all kinds of products with ratings, etc. Good luck

The Bumbo gets 5 starts in our house!! It is smaller than a high chair and really helps baby learn to use the core muscles for sitting on her own. Also, I found out that Bumbo even makes a tray that snaps onto the front so it is even more convenient. I would look for one on ebay or craigslist.org and that moght save you some money, all the gear gets very expensive and each baby is different (trust me, I have 3 under the age of 5)so you can really break the bank if you don't shop smart.

Hi, M.!

I recently found a bumbo for our 4 month old daughter at a consignment shop, and she just LOVES it. She can sit next to her big sister and play with toys on the floor or try and grab at our furbabies as they walk by...lol. I really love the soft feel to it, as well. We even used it once at the beach. I highly recommend it!
Good luck!

Hi M.,

I have had great experience with the Bumbo. When my daughter was in physical therapy, her therapist recommended it. She loved being able to sit in it and interact with us independently. It is not something that you will use for very long so maybe someone you know has one or you could find a used one!

Good luck!

Hi,

I used the bumbo with my son and it worked out great for me and him. it did however take a little time to be comfortable for him as he needed to grow into. Once he did he loved it, and so did I, I never had to worry that he would fall or get out of it which was great.

Hey M.,
I have the bebepod plus and I love it. I can take it anywhere, it is so easy to clean and I even use it in the tub. Very good seat, very many uses. I hope this helps.

I bought a bumbo for my 5 month old, she is 15lbs. We both love it. It is great for feedings. She is trying very hard to get out and has done so once. I also bought the tray for 10 bucks at onestepahead.com and for now it keeps her contained. I would recommend it and if it doesnt work...just return it.

I have the bumbo and I really like it. We used it a lot before the high-chair to start solid food. She also sits in it to play with toys. My baby is now 7.5 months old and her thighs are getting a bit chunky @ 20 pounds. But she is still comfortable in it.

I used The Baby Bargins Book by Denis and Alan Fields. This book has advised me on so many of my purchases and recommends and rates products. It has been a life-saver. I plan on purchasing the toddler book as well. Maybe it will help you with making your decisions on what to purchase.

i started using a bumbo seat when my son was able to hold his head up. i would even feed him on top of the counter in it at first. i have also seen people bring them into a restaurant to use instead of getting a high chair. i would reccommend it!!!M.

I found that the Bumbo is better because it also comes with a play tray to attach to it.

I used the Bumbo seat. Once we started using it he was sitting by himself within a week. The only difference I found between the 2 was that the Bumbo was a softer foam. The Bebe seemes to be a hard plastic, like a desk chair at school. Good luck!

Hello M.,

As a mother of two boys 6 year old & and 18 months old . I would not spend the $$$$$ on thesse pricey itmes , Trust me is something they will only use a couple of times . At 5 months she will probably start sitting up ( with out help) crwaling . Since you mention you are SAHM , do lots of outdoor activity with her . Go to the park , there are also gymnastic for babies .( google baby gymnastic and your area) I'm not a TV Fan for children. Children rather play with the box that a toy came in than the actual toy . Wish you luck !!!!!!

I have heard many people talk about how much they love their bumbo, but personally I have one for my son and I hate it. He seems to fit too tight in it and I worry about him being a boy and all. But this is just my opinion--it might be because he is big for his age. He also would squirm and tip over. I had to put pillows around him. I heard bad reviews about the bebepods and how the middle piece has been breaking off, but they have table tops for them now which is cool. Overall I think the bumbo is a great product, but I just think it didn't fit MY SON well. OH and Babies R US is wonderful with returns, you can return anything within 90 even if you don't have a receipt. Get one try it and return it if you don't like it. Good luck with your decision.

Hi... I LOVE MY BUMBO!!! I have an 8 month old who can sit up for a while noe and is also chuncky... 21 lbs... she is getting tight in it and i am really going to miss it. THe bumbo hellped when she could not sit and now that she can it helps even more. I place her in there ans surround her with toys while I cook... I know she wont get hurt. I take it to the bathroom and let her sit with me while I get ready... It has limitless uses... (I like the mommy that said she used it in the shower. I will try it in the tub. It is worth every penny you pay for it if you use it... you can get very creative. Good luck

I know I've posted awhile ago on this subject, but we LOVE our Bumbo! I used it this morning, in fact! I have a 19 month old who is tall 90th% for her age, but only in 20th% for weight (24lbs). We used it in our flat bottomed shower so that she and I could shower together. (She's very active and too slippery otherwise.)
The Bumbo works as a seat anywhere relatively flat. As another Mom mentioned the beach, poolside, I used it on the table for feeding when DD was first eating and I hadn't purchased our high chair yet. Of course, baby needs to be closely supervised in any situation where they are not flat on the floor. Because of the material, cleanup is a breeze and I'm sure it will last through MANY babies!!!
The only concern you may have (as another Mom pointed out) is chubby thighs. My BF had one and returned it a month later because her son had grown out of it.
I don't have any experience with the BebePod. I would check them out in person to see the materials and make the decision that way.
Congrats on your little one... you'll find a bit more freedom with the way this item allows them to "sit".

Why do you need anything? Babies need to learn to use those muscles and I wonder if these are not stalling that milestone. You're not supposed to use them on higher surfaces like the couch or a table anyway, so just pile up a couple of pillows on the floor and let her practice. Save your money for diapers :)
