Bumbo Child Seat

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Bumbo seat. It looks interesting but it's always nice to hear from someone who has used it. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Thanks so much for all the great info. I'm hoping to pick one up really soon. Thanks again.

It was a total waste of $40 for us. My boy just did not want to sit in it, kept squirming around and preferred to be in his exersaucer instead. He just hates it.

I live in the Loyola neighborhood. I'll sell it for $20 if you're interested.

we received it as a gift and I have used it a few times with my 3-month-old. She seemed to like it, but only wants to stay in it for a few minutes. It looks like it squishes her stomach. I have heard mixed reviews from my other girlfriends as well. Hope this helps.

my little girl liked her bumbo from about 2.5 months - it was a nice way for her to sit up and see things and play, especially at the baby sitter's, where her child is a few months older. now, at 9 months, we tried using it to keep her put while we went to the bathroom, etc, only to find out she can turn around, pop herself out, and crawl away. it was one of the better gifts we got at the baby shower.

We used it and loved it. John took a while to get used to it but soon he loved being in the sitting up position. The Bumbo chair is used as a physical therapy device for children in the hospital. It is suppose to support their trunk better at the same time letting them strengthen their muscles and sit up by themselves. My John spent 13months in childrens memorial and this is how he learned to sit up.

We love it!

We currently use the Bumboo seat for our 4-month old son and he really seems to enjoy it.

However, at our recent check-up the dr. said that while it is fine to use the seat for a little bit every day she wouldn't recommend that we depend on it too much as it doesn't require the child to build the core muscles required for sitting up on his own...

Good luck!

we put my 6 mos old in it starting for a few minutse around 4 months. He's pretty squirmy though so he likes to bend and twist around (and suck the sides of it). So we mostly just have him sitting on the floor with us when working on his sitting. Occasionally, we still use it when interested in keeping him a bit more stationary for a few moments. However, I'd never leave the room with him in it, as I know he could bend over and dive right out. ..

I thought the cost of these ($40) was outrageous since it can't cost more than about $5 to make, but when my son turned 3 months old he was obsessed with sitting up. He tried one at a friend's house and he liked it so much we went out and bought one for him that night. It's great, especially if you have to take a shower, go to the bathroom, etc - you can just pick up the baby with one hand, plop the bumbo down on the floor and set him there with a couple toys. He's 8.5 months old now and we still use it on occasion, though less now that he can sit on his own.

I should note that my son *hated* those recliner bouncy seats - he much preferred the bumbo. But my sister's son was just the opposite - he was so roly-poly that he didn't bend very well in the middle, and he never really used his bumbo. So I'd suggest putting your girl in one and seeing how she likes it before investing the $.

-If you love taking pictures of your little one, get one! It's eaiser & safer then proping them up in the corner of a couch or chair.

-I have twins & also used the seats at the 0-depth pools before they could crawl. They could stick their toes in the water & splash while I played with my other baby. The seats float so they have to have a little weight on them for use at the pool.

I have one if anyone wants to buy it from me. They sell for $40 & I'd be happy to get $20 for it. I live in Wood Dale near Irving Park Rd & 83. Zip 60191

Hope you enjoy your seat! I loved it even though they use it for such a short time.

Both of my twin boys are in physical therapy due in part to the use of the Bumbo seat. This is NOT an appropriate chair for any child. It can cause curvature of the spine. Watch how your child sits in the seat and you will know what I am talking about. There is an article in the Tribune stating this as well. Back to sleep-tummy to play.
