Brown Discharge: Normal or Pre-miscarriage?

I'm not expecting medical advice or predictions, but I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced brown discharge when wiping at 6-8 weeks pregnant. If so, how did your pregnancy turn out? I've had two previous miscarriages (one was a missed/silent miscarriage that was undetected for three weeks). Any discharge is worrisome to me, but I'd like perspective from other moms. (and yes, I'm calling the doctor first thing in the morning, just looking for input right now). Thanks in advance!

So What Happened?

I appreciate everyone's input so far. I did call the doctor's office this morning. The nurse said for now it's nothing to worry about, just old blood from the sound of it. She said it's only a concern if it becomes period-like bleeding. I haven't had anymore today, but I'm taking it easy till my appointment on Monday and am really hoping everything turns out okay. Thanks for the input and the well wishes!

Just as an added update, I was able to move my appointment to Friday morning following more light spotting. The doctor did an ultrasound and confirmed that it was another miscarriage. I am recovering from this morning's D&C but wanted to add a caution to other moms not to assume that spotting is normal even if there are no cramps. However, panic is not necessary either. Just stay in touch with your doctor and in tune with your body if things seem amiss! Thanks again for everything!

I've had some amount of bleeding in both of my pregnancies. Recently I was told by the doc that it's not enough to worry about if I'm not "filling a medicine cup." Sorry to be crass, that's the way he put it and well, it does provide a nice visual.

Brown blood is usually "old" blood, from implantation. But, call your doc in the morning just to be sure.

I had a lot of brown discharge when I was pregnant with my daughter and everything turned out fine.

Good luck to you!

This did happen with me, I had quite a bit of dark brownish discharge when I was about 9 weeks along with my daughter. I got really freaked out and was sure that I was having a miscarriage. I got into to see the doctor the next morning and they did an ultra sound and I saw the babies heartbeat for the first time. My doctor said that this happens sometimes and she gave me no explanation as to why. My pregnancy was uneventful after that and I now have a beautiful 4 year old daughter. I will pray for you and your baby.

That happened to me with my first 3 pregnancies. The first 2 unfortunately resulted in miscarriages, but with the 3rd I went on to have a healthy pregnancy and delivered a healthy baby girl! And have since had a little boy too, with no other complications.
I'm sorry for you losses. Sending positive, healthy vibes your way! :-) Good luck!

I had some before my miscarriage started, and didn't have any other discharge in either of my other two (successful) pregnancies. However, some vaginal discharge is not uncommon and does not necessarily mean you are miscarrying. [My sister had some bleeding during her first trimester w/her first baby, and everything was fine.]

Had it with my second pregnancy and have never had a miscarriage. I don't think it is anything to to worry about. Don't stress! Best wishes.

I am 8 weeks right now, and I've had it a few times from 6 weeks on. I was a little worried at first, but it doesn't come with any other symptoms and it's only a little brown discharge. It has happened a few times after sex as well, but goes away....I'm not too worried about it, I've read that it's normal (from old blood, placenta attaching to the uterus, intercourse) as long as it doesn't get heavy and turn bright red.

Happened to me with three out of four pregnancies. With one I bled heavily.
My third pregnancy was free from any kind of bleeding. Four healthy kids. Good luck. Guess it could go either way. I will keep you in my prayers. I understand your concern, but it does not necessarily mean a miscarriage.

Brown blood is old blood and can be very common in a healthy pregnancy. I remember when I miscarried it was bright red right away and I knew it was over.

It is best to call the Dr. but for right now don't panic. Again, this is common.

I'm so sorry for your past losses, best wishes and prayers for your pregnancy.

for me- brown was just implantation and 'old blood'

for my dr she will usually wait a couple days to make sure the discharge of any kind doesn't continue and if it does she will bring me in or a quick ultrasound to make sure.

Hopeing things are positive for you!! good luck!
