Britax Frontier Vs. Graco Nautilus - Waterbury,CT

My son is outgrowing his Britax Decathlon. We have another baby arriving in a few weeks, and my plan is to use the Decathlon for the new baby. (It has another year before it 'expires')

So, I'm in the market for a new Combo Seat for my big guy. He is 5 1/2 and weighs just about 40 pounds. I'm not quite ready to put him in a booster, I'm looking for a seat that has a harness, but can be used as a booster down the road. (When he is a little taller, and weighs a little more)

I've narrowed it down to either the Britax Frontier, or the Graco Nautilus. I'm leaning towards the Frontier. We always used Britax seats. They are super safe, and its amazing to me how well they last. I feel like you really get your moneys worth. I'm a little nervous to buy another brand. I'll have 2 kids that will eventually need a Combo seat, and I want something that will last.

On the other hand, I have heard great things about the Nautilus. I just wasnt that impressed with it, when we went to Babies R Us to check them out.

The Nautilus is $100 cheaper. But, if the Frontier will outlast the Nautilus, I dont mind paying the extra.

Does anybody own either of these seats? Any pros and cons??

I think you will be happy with either seat. We've always used Britax too, but my niece and nephew have the Nautilus seats, and after installing and using them for them, I really do like the seat. The only thing I didn't like, and this is a biggie for boys (haha!) is the crotch buckle ends up sitting under the child where it comes out of the seat. Her kids haven't complained about it, but many kids do, and its the biggest downfall of that seat. Graco says its ok if the kids sit on it, but it still doesn't seem comfy.

The Frontier is a great seat too, and you will really like it. I've heard the cover is hard to remove, but that seems minor to me when it comes to safety. If you are used to Britax, you will easily move to using the Frontier.

S oreally its all in what you want. If you want to spend hte money, go for the Frontier. Otherwise the Nautilus is a very nice seat too.

I have two year old boys and they have been in the Britax seats since birth just about. I love thir products and would settle for noyhinhg less for my boys. This is on a completely different topic that what your post was for, the seats....I just have to ask that when you commented that "they are the loves of my life, Other than your husband did you mean that, or were being ficecious? I am just wondering and trying to connect with any local moms who are having troubles with their husbands and are considering leaving their with their kids.

I got both of my kids the Nautilus when they outgrew their roundabouts, and I did a ton of research on both the Recaro, Frontier and the Nautilus before I came to my final decision. I decided on the Nautilus because I felt it was more flexible and a better value for the money. I like that the back comes off eventually, because my son is tall and will need that feature. I like how easy they are to install and remove and install again. Again, my son is tall and he hasn't complained at all about the harness point at his crotch. It's a good, safe, comfortable seat.

I have both seats. The nautilus fit like a dream in my husband's quad cab toyota tundra. When he traded it in for an Altima with leather seats we could not get it in securely enough. So now, the nautilus is in my grand caravan and the frontier is in the altima. The frontier is a TANK! It is TRICKY to install, even in the minivan. You have to read the directions over a few times. I have had a Britax Marathon and Boulevard, which are easy to install compared to the frontier. I used to wish that I had just gotten two nautilus seats but now am glad that I had another option for the altima. A good thing about the frontier is that it doesnt expire for 10 years! So if you want a seat for your other kids, it is worth the money.
