Breastfeeding Baby Doll

Have any of you moms heard of this breastfeeding baby doll on the market? Apparently is sucks like it is breastfeeding when placed up against a special halter top worn by the child. What do you think of this? Would you get one for your daughter?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Just a side note for those who asked/commented - my daughter has not asked for nor do I think she has even heard of said doll. I was just perusing the internets and saw the advertisement - first I had heard of it. I knew it would make for a great discussion. Apparently I am just behind on the post as it had already been posted. =)

I wouldn't buy it simply because it seems too gimicky plus I can't see my kids putting on a special vest just to pretent to breastfeed one doll. My girls "breastfeed" the dolls, the sock monkey, the stuffed animals, zoobles, little pet shop...you name it they hold it up their little ninnies. Cracks me up!

This question popped up a few months ago. I think it's stupid. If a kid wants to pretend to breastfeed, they will do it with whatever doll or stuffed animal they have. I do find the halter top and all that a bit creepy, personally. I'd never buy it. Waste of money.

Yuck. I am bf'ing my 3 month old son so naturally my 2 daughters (4 and 5) get interested, so they will pretend with their dolls. Who cares, no problem. But to go out of my way to get a doll they can pretend is actually bfing on them? Nope.

Wow I am surprised some moms find this disgusting :(
When I had my third, my daughter was 3 and a half and I remember her playing "baby" with her dolls, lifting up her top to "feed" them.
I never taught her this, she just did it, and I thought it was so sweet!
How could anyone, especially a mom (breastfeeding or not) find anything wrong with this?
Seriously???

I think its more socially responsible than a doll that bottle feeds.

Ive talked about this doll a lot though, i had a chat on it a while back and it got quite heated. I think the Doll is just fine, and appropriate. Much better than the ones that pee themselves. I would get it for my daughters BUT im not going to pay the gazillion dollars they want for it.

Plus my kids breastfeed their dolls anyway, without a vest, or suckling noise....and its FREE!

I think it's interesting and I would likely get one for my girls. I think it's good to represent both methods of feeding a baby. I also advocate for dollies with proper parts, too. I don't think shielding the kids from body parts makes them any less curious and I'd rather my kids look at a doll than another kid behind the bushes. ;)

I would get the breastfeeding doll before I would get a bottle feeding one, that's for sure. We are who we are conditioned to be....

I think the dolls that you feed and they pee and poop are disgusting. I think the breastfeeding doll is pretty cool, though I don't know why a special doll is necessary, and I wouldn't buy it because I want my kids to have imagination, not a toy that needs batteries and talks/walks/etc.

When my second son was born, my oldest son (at only 3) would feed his stuffed animals like mom was feeding the baby. IT was adorable. My daughter was adopted at 3 from Ukraine, and she has babies but we tossed the doll bottles the one doll came with. We have friends who nurse their babies and that is how we feed babies. She doesn't lift her shirt but she will say 'I feed the baby' and hold the baby to her chest.

Why is it ok to give a baby/doll a piece of plastic, but not allow kids to do what is natural? There is nothing disgusting about breastfeeding, there is nothing disgusting about little kids feeding their dolls.

I don't see what all the fuss is about. It's just because our culture has made breasts so taboo. Breastfeeding is a form of nurturing. We teach our daughters to nurture their dolls, to feed them, love them, cloth them and feed them. So why is it ok for a young girl to give a baby a bottle in play and not her breast? Heaven forbid our daughters may actually grow up thinking their breasts are first and foremost a way to feed and nurture a baby. Children are going to learn by imitating adults. If they see mom breastfeeding the baby, chances are they are going to do the same thing. I think we should be more concerned with other things children see adults doing than something completely natural like breastfeeding.

My co-worker and I looked it up on the internet. It is from Spain. We found it absolutely appaling! We have nothing against breast feeding, but to encourage a very young girl to do so is not appropriate. (We are both mammographers.) There are just certain things that are crossing the line and making kids grow up too fast. What's next? A way to help the little girls pretend that they are giving birth? We really need to keep our children little for as long as we can. So, no, I would absolutely under no conditions buy that doll for my daughter!. (By the way, I am a doll collector, and would not want it for my collection!)

Yes I've heard of it... if it was cheaper, I'd have no issues getting my daughter one. We are a breastfeeding friendly, self led weaning family.

I don't see any difference between a baby doll that bottle feeds versus one that feeds as they are meant to.

I think it is important that we do not shield or grossify the normal aspects in which Motherhood is. Motherhood IS giving birth normally and breastfeeding. Just because so many Moms in the USA don't prefer to have Motherhood the way the rest of the world does, does not mean that those of us who do should feel chastised or made to feel less than our proud achievements which we plan on passing down to our children, especially our daughters. Mimicking breastfeeding and childbirthing in our daughters is a sign in which they understand and grasp the basic reality of what will most likely be in their future - just like when we are happy they can sign their names, write essays, and learn to dress themselves.

I like that there is a breastfeeding doll. I think it normalizes what should be considered normal and natural. I am highly considering buying one to support the idea.
The only thing I don't like about it is I don't think a doll needs batteries to be breastfed. All 3 of my children, 2 boys and 1 girl, happily lifted their shirts and put their baby dolls to their "breasts" and "fed" them. I also don't care for the $100 price tag! These 2 things are the only things making me vacillate on whether to get it or not. I won't spend $100 on an American Girl Doll either nor have I bought a single battery doll that coos, cries, eats, drinks, plays peek-a-boo, or whatever else manufacturers make dolls do.
This topic has come up several times on several forums I'm on. I've seen people that think it sexualizes a child, I disagree completely.
I've read that the only people that would buy it are breastfeeders anyway so it does nothing to normalize it or make it more mainstream. Again, I disagree. If my daughter has one and her bottle fed friends come over and see it they might like it and ask for it or at least see breastfeeding as another way to feed a child other than a bottle. I remember my son's first doll, it came with a pacifier, he was clueless as to what it was and what it's supposed to do. None of my 3 kids ever used one. Same with bottles, they looked at them puzzled, I never once gave my children bottles of anything. They started sippy cups with solids with water in them so they had something to keep from choking.
I am further to getting one instead of not and making an exception for this one thing from my no batteries rule and spending that much just to support the principal.

Realism has gone a bit too far! NO, I would not buy this doll for my granddaughter! Enough is enough. What company is making this doll? And why did they (company) think it was a good idea? They must be the same company who made the doll who makes sounds sucking a bottle...how annoying! Next thing you know they will make a doll who makes grunting sounds having a BM!

I have no problem with little girls pretending to breastfeed their dollies, however I would be concerned about a little one taking the doll and putting it to her actual nipple instead of the vest or whatever it comes with. I would be concerned that a doll that really sucks could hurt a little girl. I think it is better to take a regular doll and pretend that way.

I would certainly not say that it is more socially responsible, sheesh, but I don't think it's a big deal. I personally don't like any doll that does special functions...like make drinking sounds or pee or whatever. So I wouldn't buy it.

this is dangerous! i would not encourage this type of behavior with an expensive doll. to be doing this in public around strangers.. god only knows. what sick people might be watching. who said that breasts aren't sexual organs? my breast are definitely as much sexual organs as they are organs designed to aid in child rearing... just like my vagina! sex and babies go hand and hand... helllooooo? we may want to conveniently forget the fact that men are sexually attracted to boobs but that don't make it not true. i do NOT want my children to learn to draw attention to that area of their body at such a young age. period. when i breast fed my youngest i tried as much as possible to do it in a separate room and would not allow my oldest to stare if she was in the mood. breasts are PRIVATE PARTS. and bfing is private also, not a game.
