I am seriously thinking about a breast reduction. I feel like I carry so much weight due to the size of my breasts. Have you had the surgery? How did you feel after? Was it worth it... Are you now much happier?

What can I do next?

Hi A.,
I have 3 family members who have had this surgery. They all said it ws the best thing they ever did. It frees you from all that weight and pressure on your back. Also, you can prob. try to have a doctor determine it is medically necessary so you don't have to pay for it completely out of pocket. They all looked 2o lbs. lighter after the surgery and they all are still very full in the bust. GL, it is a good thing!

Hi A.! I had BIG breasts my entire life (42D). After my first guess what, they got bigger! I felt awful inside and out (for all the obvious reasons)! When my first was just about a year old I had the surgery. It was a gift to myself as well as to him. I wanted to be able to run around with him and enjoy life and not tug at my bra or shirt or dream about resting them on a shelf somewhere, lol. My surgeon asked me to talk to other women after my surgery because I had such a wonderful experience. So if you are considering it, I say DO IT!! I felt---free! I went from a triple E to a 36C!! I tell you the truth when I say that I am actually happier! It's so WORTH IT. My surgery was eight years ago now. It was a quick recovery time. I stayed the night in the hospital...went home the next day. I had a baby to take care of so I didn't allow myself time to sit around. I didn't have any problems with activity (although they will tell you not to do certain things for a while). There's lots of specifics to this surgery--pros and cons of course. I felt that relief and quality of MY life outweighed the bad. If you have any questions or want more specifics email me at: ____@____.com

Let us know what you decide.

To freedom!
E.

Hi A.,

I have not had breast reduction surgery, but I have been doing mammograms for 15 years and have had hundreds of patients who have had the surgery. I have never, ever heard anyone say they regret it. Most say it was the best decision they ever made.

I hope this helps--good luck making your decision!

i had it done 10 years ago when i was 23...it is the best thing i EVER did. it was out patient surgery at Huntington Hospital, when u pick a dr. ask for references you can speak to. mine was so long ago and i think they do it different now.it was pretty painful for a couple of days, im not going to lie, but SO worth it. they were perfect perky c cups. you have to wear a sports bra for a long while after the surgery. you will be so surpirsed at how differnt you feel. lighter, your shoulders and back dont hurt anymore, you can wear prettier bras and fit better in shirts. good luck!! if you have any other questions you can e mail ____@____.com.........

My sister had that done a few years ago and she is so much happier! I'm happy for her that she is so much more comfortable now. She had grooves in her shoulders from her bra straps! She was so excited after her surgery that she took all the women folk in the family upstairs to show them off. She was so funny! She is naturally comical anyway and when she took us aside and asked if we'd like to see her smaller boob's, we all said sure! LOL! We are all so very happy for her.

I had the surgery 2 years ago this December 29th and am so glad I did. Too bad you don't live in CT, I had the best surgeon and he did a fantastic job. I feel so much better now. The surgery itself was not bad at all considering how large your incisions are. It was done as an outpatient. I used Tylenol for pain for a few days, the hardest part was the bandaging and buttons he put on my nipples, but those came off in a week. I also drove the following week against my doctor's orders (I wanted Chinese food), but could not lift my arms for a while to prevent injury. My daughter had to help me take a shower and put cloths on for about 4 weeks and then I was fine. My sister had it done by another doctor who did an awful job, she lost both her nipples and has horrible scarring. My surgery was not done for cosmetic reasons, as I had a mass and other problems. My daughter will have hers done as soon as she knows she is done having children. Promise me you will make sure you get the best doctor. I am a nursing student and know how important it is to get an excellent doctor. If you want to talk about it, you can e-mail me privately.
Hugs,
T.

I actually just had it done in July. I am MUCH happier. I would recommend it to anyone as long as they feel the need it, not just for cosmetic reasons. I have two kids and was always large breasted, but they grew even more with each child. I went through physical therapy and everything on and off for almost half my life (so far) and nothinig seemed to work. I finally talked to a doctor after another round of therapy which consisted of medication that just made me extremely loopy and I couldnt take it anymore. I HATE blood, needles, everything that surgery consists of, but once I talked to the surgeon, I went through with it. Just make sure that you are no longer going to have any further children. You cant breastfeed anymore (I couldnt anyway) and my sister had the surgery before she had children and it can reverse itself if you have child (which it did to her). I am definately done so that wasnt an issue for me. And I do have to say that the thing that scared me the most was going under and the pain. There was minimal pain and like I said before, I hate pain. I am a wimp and I know it. IF you can handle giving birth to a child and raising them, this is a piece of cake. The only real issues I had are the itching (it is insane but benadryl works well and I couldnt sleep on my side for 4 weeks and I couldnt lift my children (luckily they arent babies and they were old enough to understand I couldnt lift them. Also, if your back problems are like mine, my pain went away almost instantly but I still get back aches (not all the time and not nearly as bad) so dont expect them to go away instantly. I had been warned so I wasnt looking for a miracle but I have not been back to physical therapy since.
But first go talk to a good surgeon (I went to two before I picked one) and I talked with my insurance company to see if they would cover it (they did which I wouldnt have been able to afford it if they did, but they considered mine medical not cosmetic), talk with your husband and if you decide to do, I wish you all the luck and happiness that I now have.

Never had it but if you have any more children it may hinder your ability to breast feed. I would love one too but am too chicken and still hoping to have one more baby and brestfeed like I did my two kids. A.

My doctor wants me to have the surgery done. I even went to see the surgeon, however, I have to lose 35 pounds before they will touch me (I've lost 13 so far and have another 35 to go).
I am hoping that by next year I can have it done.

My sister did have the surgery and she is very happy with it. She said she would have it done again.

All the women in our family are extremely 'blessed' when it comes to breast size.... it's not all it's cracked up to be! LOL

I'm with you A.! I'm thinking about having one as well. Before my baby I was a 36DD, then went up to a 36I (that's right, I) before giving birth, and heaven knows what I was after my milk came in. And I'm only 5'. I stopped nursing but am still bigger than when I started. I'd love to be a 36B but am too chicken to go through surgery. Everyone I know who's done it said it was the best thing they'd ever done. Please let us know what you decide to do.

Hi A.,

I had a reduction done about 10 years ago - I went from an F cup to a full C. It took me awhile to get use to the difference. But I was able to wear some very sexy tops without the heavy duty bras - I used Dr. Barry Goldenberg in NYC - and have used him for other procedures. He was recommended to me by my breast surgeon.

I had a breast reduction three years ago - my children were 8, 6, and 4. The plastic surgeon removed two pounds from each breast. I am happier now. The recovery was tougher than I thought only because the incisions kept sticking to the bandaging and my underclothing, so changing and showering were very painful. I am very glad I had it done. My insurance paid for the surgery. It is nice to buy bras off the rack rather than custom. Good luck. If you have other questions or concerns, feel free to ask me. Take care!

Yes, I had the surgery 11 years ago. I was so happy and felt free after. Not only did I loose pounds from the actual reduction but because I was able to be more active when I recovered I ended up loosing 20 pounds in the 2 months after the surgery!

I am sad to say, between gaining weight and having my son, I have boobs again. Good news, they are no where's near the size before surgery. I would definitely have the surgery again.

Good luck,
J.

Hi A.
What an interesting post!!! I don't know what alot of years is, but I am guessing I have been married longer, and that you are young enough to be my daughter.
I never recommend surgery for otherwise healthy people. What is happening that you would even think such a thing? Are you having back trouble? etc? Has a MD recommended it for medical reasons?
Are you overweight, and if so have you tried loosing to see if that would change your breast size?
There are alot of questions to answer and it is good you are asking.
God bless you
