Breast Pumps - Lenoir City, TN
I have been using the Meleda breast pump during the two months since my son has been born and I also used it with my daughter who is now 3 years old. The problem is that this weekend my son will be staying with his grandparents for the first time because we are taking our daughter to an amusment park and we don't think the sun and heat will be good for the baby, well anyways, as of 8am this morning my pump stop working. I think the motor went out on it and my warnety ended 2 years ago. Does anyone have any advice on a cheaper pump. this one worked great..I loved it, but it was a shower present from my parents since it cost almost $300. We just don't have that much to spend on a pump right now. Has any one ever tried the even flo or playtex pumps? Or know of any pumps that work well, are electric and cost less than $100?
Thanks

So What Happened?™
Thanks for all the advise. One of my friends, i found out yesterday, just stop using her pump a week ago and is letting me use it for the weekend and then after that I guess I'll just wait and see what happens. Luckly my son nurses very well and I'm a stay at home mom so there isn't a lot of times that I will need a pump. For those in the Knoxville area I called 5 different places that rents pumps and the price range from $50-$65 per month. Just to let others know in case they get in the same situation.

Hi,
If you are interested, I have the same pump you have (mine is the backpack version) and I am selling it for $100. I have no experience with any other pumps, but I know that you can get brand new ones on ebay for lower prices.

I'm glad it worked out for you but if you do decide you want to get a new pump I HIGHLY recommend the Ameda. They are kind of hard to find but you can go to their website. It is just as good as the Medela but only like 100 bucks. I love it! and it does something no other pump does.....it prevents any milk from ever entering the system. It is awsome!!!

Is there somewhere that you could rent a pump? I rented my pump in Huntsville instead of buying. I thought I was going to breast feed for a year, but we decided to rent a pump at first just in case I couldn't stick with it that long. Boy was that a good decision! I only breast fed for about 6 weeks!
If you still want to buy one, maybe you could just rent a pump for 1 month or so while you research & save money to buy one you really like.

I just joined mamasource and was reading back through messages, so you may have already resolved situation. However, I thought I would go ahead and sent you a link to the website that I bought my pump in case you are still looking for one.

These are the prices I was quoted for Medela pumps, I did not look at the other pump brands they carry for a comparison.
Pump In Style Original $195.00
Pump In Style Adv Shldr. $225.00
Pump In Style Adv Back Pk $225.00
Pump In Style Adv Metro $250.00
The are a certified Medela dealer, so if you pump has problems Medela's warranty will work. I know this first hand because I had to have my pump replaced.
Best of Luck.

you can rent a medela pump at a medical supply store. I saw that other people said it only cost $25 a month -- I wish I knew where that store was -- mine was $70 per month and the cheapest option was $50 per month. If you only need it for a short time, I would rent one. I bought a $40 pump at the store and it is not nearly as good as the medela.

With my son I had an Avent hand pump and I was so hard. With my daughter, I rented a Meleda double pump for from St. Vincents for about $25 a month - it was ugly but sooooo worth it.

I bought an even flo pump but I didn't like it. It worked ok for awhile, but took forever to pump. Like 30 min each side. I also had problems with the suction. It had a rubber insert that you had to use and it just wasn't comfortable. You might consider renting a pump from a hospital for this occasion. They have several different plans. The place at Baptist Montclair has a plan for as little as 7 days. The store bought pumps just don't match up to the Medela ones.

I know this is a respose to an old request but I noticed the pump issue was resolved. But the part about the colicly baby issue i didn't see anyone offer advise on treating it.
Fennel tea works great on their little tummies. you can use your tea pot or coffee pot to make it . You take one TBS of Fennel Seed crush it and then 16 ounces of water an boil it or run through coffee pot and cool to a warmer tempature and put in a bottle and let them drink all they want. i wouldn't give them the milk for a few hours while giving them the fennel seed tea. I still to this day use it for my stomach. it works great. and it taste good, has a mild liqurish taste goes great with a drop of orange oil. Blessings S.

There are several used breast pumps on theeclassifieds.com. do a search for the eastman gift shop and go to the classifieds there.
