Breast Pump, Seeking Good Product Information
I am getting ready to have my second baby as most of you may know. I have also recently went back to work from my frist son. Anyhow, I will be nursing this child as well and i was wondering if any of you could give me a review on a good automatic breast pump. Any advice or information would be wonderful.

I rented a Medela Symphony pump with my third. It's a hospital grade double pump and it ended up costing about $75/month plus a one time $50 fee for the starter kit. I can't say enough good things about it. I absolutely loved it. I really researched it and when I discovered it is the pump used at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia I decided it had to be at least worth giving a try. I was really happy with it. It is super easy to use and traveled well. I also had the Medela Swing for short trips. Liked that too but definitely not for full-time pumping. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

I have a dual Ameda electric pump. I read reviews on line, and Ameda seemed to get better review than Medela. It's worked great for me!

I agree with the other moms-- hospital pump if you can afford it/insurance covers it, a Freestyle or Pump in Style if not. I'd also look into the medela bras that let you pump "hands free"...
Congrats!

I responded to a request from Oct. 22, 2008 -"what's the best breastpump for working moms?". There was a lot of great advice posted from everybody. I recommend that you check it out in addition to the responses you get. It's easy to find this and other related requests by clicking on "Requests and Responses" at the top of the page, then clicking on the subject on the left side ("Newborns & Infants", then "Breastfeeding & Lactation"). God bless you and your family!

If there is any way that you can afford it, or have some people chip in, I highly reccomend the Medela Freestyle. Incredible pump!!!!!!!!!
If not, the Medela Pump in Style is also an excellent pump & is the "gold standard" (or was, until the Freestyle came out!) for working moms.
HTH!

If you are going back to work or plan on using the pump frequently then I would suggest the Medela Pump In Style Double Electric Pump. It is the most industrious pump you can buy, without renting a hospital grade pump. The only real complaint that I have is that the bag started to fall apart (literally coming apart at the seams) only a few months after I bought it. I take it to work 5 days a week, but I don't think that I'm that hard on it. So I called the company and they sent me a replacement bag for free (the pump motor can be taken out of the bag). However, the bag is falling apart again.
My other suggestion is to get the backpack style if you are going to have to carry it around a lot because it is heavy, especially once you have the bottles and accessories packed in it. I changed jobs and now take the train into the city and have to walk 5 blocks to work, and my shoulder is paying the price. Now I try to leave it at work if at all possible, which has left me in the lurch a couple of times.
It is a good pump and the common accessories you need are sold at lots of stores, including Target. Hope this helps.
Congrats on the baby!

Hello. I pumped when I had to go back to work with my first and (she was 5 months) and am planning on doing the same with my second due in Feb. I have a Medela Pump in Style that worked great that I am planning on using again. Which ever pump you choose, I highly recommed the nursing bras that have an extra panel that allow you to pump both sides, hands free. It was a lifesaver even just to have the few minutes to read a magazine. (perish the thought!) I got mine from the la leche league web site. Wherever you get one, it is a must and make sure it has two panels. Good luck. -N. J
