Breast Pump - La Conner,WA

I was wondering if anyone knows of a good brand of breast pump. Preferrably one that isn't too expensive. I had rented one with my first daughter and it made it really helpfull when my breasts were too full and she wasn't hungry. My second one I tried to buy one but it ended up being pretty crappy and didn't help much. Now we have one due in september and I'd really like to have a decent one.

What can I do next?

Medela all the way. I used it for my son and then a friend used it when she went back to work. I still have the pump and plan to use for #2 (third child if you count my friends baby). It is $300 but totally worth every penny. I have also seen people sell them used so you might be able to find one cheaper.

I have a Medela Pump in Style and a Lansinoh electric. The Medela is awesome and designed to be compact and portable. The Lansinoh was almost half the price and was as good a pump, but didn't come with the fancy bag. Both have battery-power options, but you're never going to get the same power that way. If you're going to possibly have more children and/or will be pumping on the go a lot, go ahead and spring for the Medela.
Otherwise, the Lansinoh is quite fine.

Oh, the Lansinoh's suction system also does not have the possibility of contamination that the pump in style does. If you can find a used Lansinoh and get new tubing and such, there's no issue.

Medela :) I recently found out that some insurances will pay for breast pumps...I had no idea but you might check and see if yours does. Yeah if it does!!

I've got to go with the Medela Pump In Style also. I used it heavily for about 10 months and it never let me down. It's not cheap. I got mine for $270+tax and had to buy the larger shields, but it was worth every penny.

Are you going to be returning to a job or just occasionally needing to pump?
If it is the latter I would just recommend a good manual pump.
I have 2 Pump in Styles. After my 2nd child I did not return to work and never once needed to use the PIS. Thank goodness-never worked great for me. :)

I did however use my Avent hand pump numerous times.

I hope that helps.

Congrats on #3!!!

I had a pump in style that I loved. It was a workhorse and didn't let me down when I had to pump around the clock for 12 long weeks until my son learned to nurse after coming home from the NICU. After I lost it in Katrina I replaced it with a cheaper Medela ($130!!!) and it was terrible. I'd spend the extra $, get quality and then sell it once you are done. It's very easy for another mom to get new tubing and parts.

I have a Medela In Style double-breast pump that I was going to list on Craig List. I'm going to post it as soon as I take a picture of it. I'd JUST finished breastfeeding/pumping for my child (he's 6 months). I just don't have time to do it anymore (work full-time). If you're interested, you can email me at ____@____.com. I'm selling it for $100 (I believe they're price at new is $280). I have ALL the parts AND more!!!!

I knew I was going to use mine when I went back to work so I purchased the Madela pump in Style. It was in the range of $300. I used it for my son for about 4 months and with my daughter the whole first year of her life. So, the money I spent was worth it. If you are not going to use it that much I'd probably get a manual one for the occassional engorgement issue......I haven't used one like that however so I don't know what to suggest.

I loved my medela - used it for over a year with my first one. You might contact your local la leche league for people wanting to sell theirs - you'll just have to buy new tubing and such. Also hospitals often rent them. Congrats on the new baby.

I have to agree with the other posters on the Medela Pump-n-style. It worked great for me, and I was using my SILs which was 3 years old at the time. Worked really well for both of us. Best of luck!!

Medela. Check out craigslist or consignment stores for used ones. You can either sanitize the pieces/parts or buy replacement ones. Frankly, there are very few pieces that actually come in contact with the milk.

I have the Medela pump in style. It is expensive but so worth it. It is still working like brand new after being used over a year. You could always rent one through a hospital, babies r us, local pregancy assistance center, and your local WIC agency.

I loved the one I had, but it was very expensive. It was the medela pump in style. I think it was around $300. But, I know you can buy them used a little cheaper and just buy new tubes and stuff for them (those don't cost much at all). I actually even sold mine on craigslist when I was done with it.

Here's another vote for Medela Pump in Style. I actually got mine from a friend who was done having kids. You can either sanitize all the parts that touch your skin or the milk, or you can buy new (they have the tubes, bottles etc available online or at Babies R Us). The pump itself is the expensive part, so if you can buy or borrow a used one, I would recommend that.

I used the Medela Single Deluxe Battery/Electric Breast Pump.

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=240906...

Because I am a SAHM and didn't need to pump much, it was perfect for me. It's very small, and you can plug it in or use batteries. I could use it when I needed it. It's very small. I could take it in the car. I did use the Pump N Style, but to me this was so much more practical for a SAHM.
