Breast Pain

This is my second time around. I keep hearing that every pregnancy is different but I was not prepared for what that really meant. I'm 18 weeks pregnant and woke up this morning with the worst pain in both breasts. I mean excruciating. They hurt just sitting here. And all over, they are also warm to the touch. I have large breasts already, but they are even larger and fuller feeling. I did call the doctor and have an appointment for tomorrow. Just wondering if I'm going crazy or is this normal?

What can I do next?

hey there
I'm 30 weeks along and at 16 weeks I had EXACTLY what you have mentioned. If the girls would have fallen off, I would have been quite happy! I massaged them, put some warm packs on them, and they leaked everywhere. It was the best feeling ever. Who would have thought a little lactating could be so awesome! The Dr. said it was normal, and if it happened again, to just give them a squeeze and try to express what was being produced! good luck!!

Your body is telling you, YOU are pregnant. Your Dr. should be able to answer more. Good luck with your happy news for you both.

that is normal some woman on some preg. get it worse than others. You should be able to produce ampel amounts of milk for your baby at this rate.. they get warm and even hot some time when the glands are getting ready to produce..

Here is a link EVERY woman should watch.
I really do not want to freak you out, but please watch this and see if any of it applies to you...
My best friends mom had this type of cancer and it truly is devastating...
I hope and pray it is nothing at all, but ask your dr. lots of questions...
If the link does not work. it is an article on Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC)..Google it and there is an article on the KOMO news 4 Seattle web site. it is quite graphic...but it needs to be to drive the point home.

Sorry honey, totally normal:( In fact, I knew I was pregnant when I woke up in the middle of the night and my boobs hurt. I just knew it cause its a hurt that does not happen otherwise.

I hear some ladies who get warm towels and just sit them on their boobs while they watch tv or just read a book. It helps to relieve the hurt some.

Good luck!

It is normal to have soreness, I remember mine were extremely tender and sore. What you have described does sound a bit worse than normal. I'm sure it's nothing but seeing your OB will help clear up any confusion.

I had this...it hurt so bad to even put a bra on. I was diagnosed as having mastitis. They gave me antibiotics and it went away. They were red and warm...like having a breast fever. It wasn't any fun so I feel for you. Good Luck.

I am a retired RN, and hopefully you are experincing hormonal soreness, but it is still best to be checked out.........ice packs may help relieve the discomfort..........good luck..........

my first pregnancy, i was sure they were gonna blow.... or fall off, my god it hurt. but i had no temp or anything. do keep your appointment, because if there are any "hot spots", areas that are more red or lumpy than others, you could have an infection. i know, it hurts to hug someone, and there you are with your two year old! hang in there, no pun intended...

It sounds like your milk is coming in (your body knows what to do this time around!!!) and you could have a clogged duct or even mastitis (though mastitis is not usual just in pregnancy). With an appt tomorrow your doctor will diagnose and tell you what to do. Don't be alarmed! And good luck! My first two are a little over two years apart, and when this baby is born (I'm 17 weeks pregnant) my oldest will be 3 1/2 and my little one will be 18 months. It's challenging sometimes, but fun!!!

I would have described my breast pain as sensitive and sore, but nothing a bad as you're explaining. I am glad that you scheduled an appt....do you have a temperature? Sorry to hear about how you are feeling, but CONGRATS ON THE NEW BABE! :)

That almost sounds like mastitis...you probably do need to see a doctor and get on antibiotics. For today, try heat and cold packs, and you might see if you can express any milk? Take a really hot shower and gently massage the sore parts...I am so sorry you're having this!
