Breast Feeding ? - Greer,SC

Probably not what you want to hear, but a lot of BF babies will not take a paci. It is rather foreign to them. Of my 4, which all exclusively BF for a year each, only one was interested in a paci, and him for only a month or so and then he was done with it. I was the paci sometimes, yes, but I dealt with it. I tried all different kinds with the first two kids. No luck. I gave up after that pretty much!

I've had 3 gagger's. Which each I tried harder to find a pacifier (for car rides, helping to self sooth, etc.), but never did find one that didn't make them gag.

They continue to be easy gagger's still at nearly 5, 3 and 1.

You might want to make sure that she is perhaps just waiting for the let-down. Or just take her off and switch to the other breast. She is so young... and probably is not pulling herself off the nipple, at-will yet. I used both breasts per session, when I breastfed.

Sometimes, when my kids as babies "stopped" sucking... they would then start sucking again, when I felt the let-down again. The nipple still being in their mouth.

I let my 3 kids whom I nursed stay on breast till they were done.My son refused a paci my 2nd daughter enjoyed the paci off & on & my 3rd daughter hates the paci I tried several of them but I just let her stay on for comfort.If you are unable to this & a paci is an option for you I like the Munchkin brand or Gerber.

Maybe she's just taking a break? Mine would feed almost 20-30 min on each side, so maybe a slow feeder? Both my breastfed children fed completely differently -- my daughter was all about concentrating and very slow; my son was fast, but no concentration, and needed more feedings between 6-12 weeks, usually only an hour between:)

My son loved the paci, but not my daughter. We had to get the 0-3 mos, brown-nipple OrthoPro and he only just went to a 9 mos paci at 2 yrs old:) Any other was on the floor:)

I also used the "Soothie" for my last son (11 months now). It was given to us from the hospital, and it was teh only kind of pacifier he would take. I found them at Target, and lately have seen them pop up in other stores also. One thing for my son, he would only use the 3 month size, refused the bigger size, even now as he is older.

Not sure if the Gumdrop pacifier was one of them you've tried but my daughter was the same way with wanting to stay on the breast (I exclusively breastfed her until she was a year) and it was the only paci she would use up until she was 3 months, then she refused a pacifier altogether and used her thumb. I'm not sure about the gagging issue cause she wouldn't gag on the other paci's she would simply spit them out. Guess every baby is different but it's worth a shot. If you're interested I've heard you could find the Gumdrop pacifier's at Wal-mart however I was never able to and ended up ordering them off of Amazon. Good luck!

My 5 week old is the same way. He has a Gerber pacifier that he will only take sometimes...he loves the sucking part, but he won't keep it in. So if he's fussy and won't drink anything, I put his pacifier in his mouth, and hold him against my chest. He keeps it in, and once he falls asleep I put him in his bed so he will sleep.

Congratulations!! We used a soothie, the softer green ones from the hospital. You can buy them at Target or CVS. Not all stores carry them. The blue and the pink are sometimes made of harder rubber, make sure you read the packaging. Good luck!

I breastfeed too. My now 2 month old does well with the "Soothie", given to us from the hospital.
