Hi, I'm almost 8w and for the past few days I have had BH type tighting in my lower stomach. It feels almost exactly like th BH did when I was pregnant with my daughter but I didn't get them until much later in my pregnancy. I don't belive this is round ligament pain, that is always sharp/shooting pain to me. I am not dehydrated or over doing it so there is no real reason for these, especially so soon. Anyone else experince these early on or have any suggestions for relif? TIA

When I had my 2nd, I felt the same kind of pain. Turned out it was just the ligament pain... it was horrible! But, if you have any concerns, I'd definitely call your doctor.

Hi A.,
Braxton-Hicks can start as early as 6 weeks. You know it is just your uterus preparing for the eventual birth. Women can have them for a while and not feel them because they are so mild, but either way every pregnant woman has them. As long as yours don't change in intensity (Braxton-Hicks shouldn't but preterm labor would) then that is probably what it is but of course you should check with your doctor. Ok, you probably knew all that and really wanted suggestions for relief. My only two would be rest and rehydration, but you already said that was not the issue. Maybe stretching too for more flexibility and light exercise? My best to you on your second little one!

Well, I agree that about the time the uterus begins to expand a bit, uncomfortable. But it is kind of early.

On the other hand, on my third pregnancy I was quite aware of these type of "sqeezing" BH type things for the majority of my pregnancy. It scared me at first but I went on and had the baby at 40 weeks on the dot.

I would check with your Doctor though.

Good luck!

It's normal to feel crampy, but to feel the BH contractions you are talking about does not sound normal to me. Maybe call your OB office and ask to speak to the nurse about your symptoms? Even if it's nothing, you'll have peace of mind!

Braxton hicks contractions can start as soon as 6 weeks. It is not common and it does not mean that anything is wrong. Just remember that every pregnancy is different.

Hi A.,

Braxton-Hicks contractions can be more normal to feel earlier on with subsequent pregnancies. However, if you are experiencing more than 4 an hour, it could mean something else. (You didn't mention how many you were feeling?) Unfortunately at only 8 weeks pregnant, they will not do anything to stop these contractions, even if they were frequent. So if you find yourself having more than you should, make sure you are drinking lots of fluids, take it easy, and watch for 'triggers'. Vacuuming can be a huge trigger for early contractions. Stay away from electric heating pads, and electric blankets (not that you need that in Texas anyway!) If you find lifting your daughter is causing the contractions, you might want to sit down and let her climb on your lap. Just use common sense. Listen to your body, and make sure you are eating as well! Hopefully you are just experiencing cramping from the stretching going on, or just a BH contrax every now and then.

Good luck,

T. B

I got BH when I was 4 mo pregnant.
My daughter was born only 10 days early.
Everybody is different. If you're concerned,
you should definitely call your OB.

Good Luck!
