Braces...How Young & Know of Any Good Dr.'s in the Beverly Hills Area?

My daughter we've been told needs braces. She's going to be 8 in September and I've heard they now do braces in two stages. My daughter wants braces now as she hates the gap in front teeth (which I love), so I figure if she's ready then maybe we should start.

Any advice is greatly appreciated and welcomed.

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Hi K.-

My third son was about the same age when he got his braces. As for a recommendation, my mother kept on bugging me to bring my kids to the orthodontist that she used for my sister. His name is Dr. Wasserman (don't know his first name). I never went b/c I live in Northridge and he's in the Beverly Hills area. Hope this helps.

I have a daughter who is also 8 and she started her braces a month after her 8th birthday. She's had a great experience! Nothing I expected. Since her teeth are already moving around from losing and gaining new teeth, she hasn't complained once about any pain from her orthodontics. She had braces for 6 months to turn some teeth that were growing in the wrong way, and last month, the braces came off and an expander was put in to widen the palate of her mouth to make space for her new teeth to grow in. We use Dr Paul Austin in Santa Monica who is wonderful with kids...

Hi K.,
My name is K. Thompson. I am actually an orthodontist. Unfortunately, my office is not in Beverly Hills. However, I have a friend that is an orthodontist and he has an office in Beverly Hills. His name is David Alpan and his number is ###-###-####.

In answer to you question...all children should visit the orthodontist at age 7. 9 times out of 10, the child will not need braces at that time. However, if there are any skeletal discrepancies, age 7 can be an excellent to correct these issues. Also if front teeth are protruded, they can be uprighted and aligned, so that if an accident occurs their teeth are in a better position to reduce injury.

Most likely if your daughter is 8 years old, she would receive Phase I treatment. Phase I treats children that do not have all of their permanent teeth. Phase I will align the permanent teeth that are present, make sure that the remaining permanent teeth have enough space to erupt correctly, and correct any skeletal jaw discrepancies if necessary.

I hope this information is helpful. Please let me know if you have any more questions. :)
