Bracelet Loom/kit Question

Hi all! Apparently there is this new fad with kiddos with the rubber band bracelets you make with a loom. Our kids do not have one, but are totally hooked from cousins and friends. I wanted to get a loom and bands as a family gift for Christmas they all could share. I don't know anything about them but I've heard generic bands break easily. It may have been a previous question a few weeks ago. If so, I apologize.

Is there a specific brand I should get? I've seen them at Micheals (but I thought it was expensive), and I've seen them online but I don't remember where. Any help would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

I have been told you don't want the cheap one from Wal Mart, you want the one from Michaels. I know nothing really because the sister in law dispensing this advice is the one getting it for my daughter for Christmas.

One of the things she said was the one at Michaels comes apart so you can add to it or change the pattern, the cheap ones can't do that.

She also said there is no difference between the cheap bands or the more expensive ones because they are only on the loom, stretched, for a short time. Once you make them they are just woven, not stretched.

I am sooooo looking forward to having tons of little bands all over my house!

Rainbow Loom and the rubber bands at Michaels. Yes, they're more, no it's not a lot more, and they are better quality. Both my 10 & 11 yo have looms and making bracelets together is the longest time they ever get along, lol. They also watch youtube for ideas, so if you don't want your kids on youtube be warned, most of the cool/intricate bracelets are explained there an not in the book that comes with the kit.

My daughter has the Rainbow Loom and bands from many places. I wouldn't worry too much about the quality - the fad will end before you know it.

My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE these. They may be a fad, but I think they are better than watching TV or video games. My son likes them more than my daughter and spends lots of time figuring out different patterns and has fun trading them with his friends.
Anyway... we originally got our from Michaels, but we have also tried the bands from Target and get this... they glow in the dark! Bonus!! :) I don't see much of a different in the quality.

Get them from Michael's. It's not that expensive...and better to buy it once than buy the cheap ones and have to keep replacing them.

My son has had them for several weeks, we are in Chandler also. He currently is wearing 2 necklaces and about 6 bracelets he's made. lol At first I got him 3 packs of just the bands and links at Walmart, I think they were $2.99 to start, just to make sure it was something he was going to stick with. Then last weekend he came home from his dads with the whole plastic kit that holds all the bands and has the loom built into it. He likes it much more. He also goes on youtube and learns different ways to make them. If you think it's something they will do, then get the bigger kit at Michaels. Good luck.

Rainbow Loom. All the YouTube videos for the fancy designs are done on these, so if you don't get that one, get one with a similar peg pattern. Also, yes, the cheaper bands break easily. You'd think it's no big deal, but several of layers of bands in on an intricate design and...SNAP...that sort of preventable pain and frustration is worth the 30 cents extra you'll pay for the Loom bands.

PS- I think it's an awesome gift idea - just be sure to purchase extra bands, because they will go through them quicker than you'd think.

My son has the Rainbow loom. It retails for $16.99 now. I paid that or close to that before Halloween. I didn't think it was expensive. My 12 yr old son uses it constantly. I love that he spends a lot of his time making the bracelets for family members, friends, and himself.

I have never been one for fad things like those jelly bracelets or pokemon cards but both my son and daughter like these and they do trade at school. I can't tell about the quality. we got ours from micheals it's a rainbow loon and the kids paid for it with allowance.

I would get it and even if it seems a little expensive it will be worth it because they will enjoy it so much. people buy stupider stuff all the time and this is a fun one.

Get the Rainbow Loom. It's between $15 and $20 at Michael's. My younger boys got one yesterday and they're crazy about it!

Rainbow Loom, from RainbowLoom.com

Beware of counterfeit "Rainbow Loom". I don't mean other brands of a similar product, but an actual ripoff counterfeit that uses the name on the box but comes from China.

One of my friends bought other legit brands (to compare them for an article, not yet published) that were slightly less in cost than Rainbow Loom and says saving $4-$5 isn't worth it, quality wise.

My kids have all types of brands.
Some break, some do not as quickly, but do break after time.
It is silicon rubbber bands, not latex. So there is no skin irritation.

The pack of rubber bands, are not expensive. Just try whatever brand.
The "loom" brand, is the loom kit, brand.
My kids do not have the loom, and they can make the bracelets just using their fingers, even to make the "fishtail" weave.
Its up to you if you want to buy the actual loom.
With the loom you can make other types of weaves.

If you buy a loom, just read the reviews of the loom brand/model.
Like on Amazon etc.

I have been wearing the rubberband bracelets my kids made for me 24/7, everyday not taking it off, for like 1 month already. 1 of them broke. One did not. So then my kids just make more.
The rubberband packs are not expensive.

I hear all the time about the Rainbow Loom and the Crazy Loom. Those seem to be the looms all the kids have. I haven't given in yet though :)
