Boys Name Maddox

We are considering the name maddox for a boy. Have you heard this name much? Any opinions on it? Any horrible nickname potential I'm not thinking of? I got the pottery barn kids magazine and half of the names on our list are in there, which usually means they will be super popular very shortly, ugh!!! Amelia is one of our top girl names along with Stella. Baby is due in a few weeks and we are no closer to narrowing it down then 9 months ago. Here are some of our other choices: max, Matthew, Brooklyn, Lauren, lila, Maya, Eleanor,We don't know gender. Would like middle name to be lee for a boy since it's a family name. I don't like crazy unique names for the most.part. I tend to lean towards more traditional names. Thanks for your input!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I knew brangelina had that name but he's almost 10 years old I think. I just haven't heard it much in schools parks, ect. We definitely love max, but I think max lee doesn't work. Could go with Maxwell. Funny thing about Amelia, my mom was going to name me that over 30 years ago, but my dad liked my name better. Never met another Amelia, but am starting to see it now. Our daughter is Emma which we knew was super common, but it is a family name on both sides. The rest of our family names are quite bizzare.
@ Amanda, parker is on our list too :) we have an ava, Sophie, chloe, Morgan ant two madisons's on our block. Keep the ideas coming. I know names are very subjective but I like hearing your ideas.

Update: mandy, that us so funny you suggested Madden. Just today our daughter made.up that name.for one of her bunnies.and.my husband and I both really liked it. Maybe.this is a sign :). It makes for a good story too. The only hung I don't like is John madden, the football announcer. He's so annoying.

Stella sounds really cute and you dont hear it often at all. Maddox just reminds me of Angelina and Brad's kid. Max would be an easy yet strong sounding male alternative.

My little boy's name is Maddox Evan and I love it! The only nickname he has is Maxy because his older brother who was three at the time couldn't pronounce Maddox and started calling him that. Now everyone just calls him Maddox.

This site will show you the popularity of all baby names registered with the Social Security office by year: http://www.ssa.gov/oact/babynames/

I only would chose a name for my daughter that did not show up on the Top 100 list! But others like to give their children popular names, your choice. I don't follow the celebrities, but even I know that Maddox Jolie-Pitt will likely make this name a popular one.

I think Maddox is fine and the possible teasing versions of it are not really that bad.

Maddox Lee _______ sounds like a future movie star (given your last name isnt awful like "buttkiss", "Whitehead" or "cox")

As a matter of fact I like your whole list i think they are neither disparagingly unique....or too commonly boring.

If i wasn't already settled on naming my unborn baby "Pearl", or "Parker" I might consider nabbing one of them

First let me say that naming the kids was always THE hardest part for me!
Don't worry about what anyone else thinks b/c there is always gonna be someone who doesn't like your choice...it should only matter what you and Daddy like!

I have 3 friends who have named their boys Maddox. I like it.

I even considered it briefly when I had my 1st boy, I love baseball and Greg Maddox was/is my favorite pitcher to watch but I thought it was too popular for my taste...and that was 2003 ;)

~I too, get Pottery Barn Kids magazine and to me if the names are in there, it's b/c they are ALREADY way popular, not that they are gonna be.

Mad. Ox. Maddie, like the girl's nickname. Mox. Dox. It's horribly ugly all around. It's not one of those surnames that lends itself to being a nice first name.

I would avoid Brooklyn since it's the name of a burrough with a really rough, ugly reputation.

The rest of your name list is gorgeous. Just please avoid Maddox and Brooklyn like they're the plague.

If you want to check popularity by year, you can check the U.S. Social Security baby names registration site. You can check specific names, their various spellings, and how they trend through the years.

When the most famous child of the world's most famous couple is named something, yes, people have heard it. :) But it's a nice name. I did the same thing when we were thinking of our son's name. I wanted something sort of dark like Vader, but not too comic book like, and having never read Harry Potter, I was asking if anyone had heard the name Draco. My friends were like, HELLO, DUH! So we didn't pick it.

I like Matthew and Eleanor (Ellie is cute) as far as traditional and not very trendy. The others seem to be names I'm hearing a lot in toddlers and young kids right now, especially Brooklyn. I feel like every time we go to the park there is a Brooklyn or two there, and my husband made the joke "that kid looks like a Brooklyn, trashy and dangerous" (He was joking though, we used to live there and loved it :) We also see a lot of Stellas, and of course can't help going, "Steeellllllaaaaa!" a la Streetcar Named Desire.

There is a Maddox in my son's preschool class. I haven't thought of any potentially awful nicknames for it.

Amelia is cute - I do know two of them, so it is coming back. Max is popular right now, too.

Of all the names you listed, Lauren is probably the least trendy right now. It is more of a classic name.

Maya is a popular name because it is used in so many different cultures.

Whatever name you choose, give it a normal spelling so people don't mispronounce it forever! :D

The only names I think are are nice are Max, Lila, Amelia, and Stella. I don't think any of them are super popular. Matthew is just so common it makes me roll my eyes almost as much as Aiden does. Brooklyn is trendy and Eleanor is homely. Lauren is boring and Maya nice but popular. And to the poster who said Maya was too popular but suggested Ava, are you serious? Everywhere I look it's Ava, Sophia, or now Chloe. Don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but you asked for honest opinions. Maddox makes me think of Brangelina's kid. They love names with lots of xx's in them.

Yes I have heard this name for a Boy.
Angelina Jolie has a son named Maddox too.
That is why, it is a popular name and more common now.

Brooklyn, to me is a girl's name.

Maya, is a VERY COMMON name.
There are TONS of girls named this, at my daughter's school. As well as "Mia."

What about "Ava?" for a girl?
Or "Hayden" for a boy?

My opinion is that I don't care for Max in any form because of how popular it is and has been over the last few years. I have run into so many boys named Max that I just don't care for the name at all any more. Lauren is very pretty and not a common name at all. I also like Stella that is very rare, I have never met a Stella. Amelia is very pretty and timeless, I like that one best. Baby naming is so difficult and especially when you are pregnant. I loved names while pregnant that I don't like at all now. I love the name Parker!

One of our good friends has an 8 month old named Maddox Alexander, they occasionally call him Max, but mostly he is Maddox. I have a two year old and a four month old, and I have worked at a The Little Gym, and he is the only Maddox I know.

My four month old is Amelia Leigh, so obviously I love Amelia. We had no idea how popular it was going to be when we picked it. I guess it was in the top 10 last year, but I only know of three other Amelias and they are 7,9, and 12 years old.

You and I would probably get along, we condsidered Maxwell for a boy, my hubsands name is Matthew, we considered Emma Leigh, and Eleanor (call her Ellie) for our Amelia.
Our oldest daughter is Madelyn Renee, I just love her name as well.

Good luck picking a name, my advice is to not really pay attention to what is popular or not, every name we picked seemed to be really popular (Sophia, Olivia, Emma, Khloe, Anabelle, Isabella, etc) So we finially decided on Amelia and then found out it is also near the top of the lists. And we had it even easier because we knew we were having a girl! Just pick a name you love and go with it!

If it was my choice I would go with Max and Eleanor. I like Stella but I think it is on the rise in popularity. I do like Maddox, but lately I'm in love with the name Max. I can't think of a nickname for Maddox, but kids are creative and can come up with a nickname for everyone. I went to school with a Jeremy who's nickname was Bob. I do like Maddox Lee better than Max Lee. I also like Stella Lee and Eleanor Lee.

My daughter was supposed to be Emma after my grandma but it was too popular so she's Amelia! I like Stella, Lila, and Lauren the best. Brooklyn is actually pretty popular too. I also like Brooke, Clara, Harper, eliza, Jane, Evelyn, jaeda, Jillian, Olivia, Madeline, mia, lane, Quinn, and Peyton.

I like max, Maxwell, Maddox, and Matthew. I know two boys named Maddox, one is a baby the other in my daughter's class. I think max could be a nickname for maddox! I also like Carson, Carter, William/ Will, Andrew/drew, Gavin, Caleb, jack, Landon, Leland, Nolan, Oliver, Parker, Preston, Ryan, sam, Tyler, and Troy. Congrats!

We got the pbk catalog too and my daughter thought it meant she got to order everything because it all had her name on it! :)

My cousins named their baby Cohen. They liked it because it's typically a last name. And they have a first name as a last name. I thought that was a great idea for coming up with a boy's name. (Because, dang, that gender is hard to be original with!) If Lee is on the table, the name Maddox could become Mad Lee (madly). We tossed out Madigan as a girl's name for the same reason (mad again?!).

Maddox is a cool name, but names ending in X are super, super, super trendy right now.

I loved using the baby name wizard (link below) to check out popularity of names over time. Quite a few of our names for our lists peaked decades ago...like, everyone knows the name but no one's using it now because it's SO familiar. I just checked and Frank is super low right now...and Frank Lee, I think that's a great name. (Pun totally intended!)

I think Maddox Lee sounds great! A friend of my daughter has a little brother named Maddox. Other than him, the only one I know of is Angelina Jolie's son.
I like Amelia for a girl. It is getting more popular though. I just read a book by Jodi Picoult and two characters in the book were Emma and Amelia. Of course, I have to mention my own kids' names if you're looking for suggestions: Annalise, Joshua and Brendan. If I have another girl, I love the name Madeline Grace. If I have another boy I would name him Ian Michael. Congrats on your soon to be new addition!

My very best friend just had a little girl & named her Olivia Louise. I don't love Maddox, but I do really like Alexander & I think Alexander Lee sounds nice together. My all-time favorite boy's name is Jackson, but I married a man whose last name rhymes with that so we couldn't go in that direction. We went with Michael & Hailey (she's 10, the only other Hailey I'd heard of while pregnant was Eminem's kid, lol).
