Born Free Bottles
Is anyone else having trouble with Born Free bottles? My son liked them at first but he seems to have a hard time now. I have to change the nipple several times before he will eat. I purchased new nipples which seemed to work at first but then after awhile the same issue was happening again. Anyone else have this problem?
Side Note- I dont need anyones opinion on breast feeding! Its a personal choice to bottlefeed. If you feel the need to lecture me then don't bother responding. Thank you
So What Happened?™
Thanks everyone! Im trying the Dr. Browns and he is taking them right away. It looks like I have to make an expensive switch. But I guess its worth it to get my sleep again!

We had similar problems w/the Born Free bottles along w/leaking issues. We are now using Dr. Brown's and are very happy w/them. They have helped my daughter's colic as well.

Hated them. They gave my daughter gas & a small case of colic. Once I realized it was the bottle, I switched to playtex drop ins-old school- but what everyone who had older children was recommending & not only did the so called colic subside but the gas was cut in half. Plus the drop ins are BPA free so no worries there. I also reuse them a few times before I change them so as not to create as much waste. Just rinse them really well with hot water & dry before next use. My daughter is 5 months old & I would never make that mistake again to use those again. We have found out bottle & don't have to worry about making any more changes. They now sit on the shelf unused. I guess I should try to sell them...

Hi M.,
I actually had a problem with the Born Free Bottles too. In fact, my son was getting too much air from them creating horrible gas. We ended up going with the playtex drop-in liners. First, it is SO much easier to clean...you basically just clean the nipples. Also, my son is not sucking in as much air. The nipple seems to really work and the formula doesn't come out of his mouth barely at all. My friend was trying to convince me to get these bottles from the beginning but I decided to go with the more expensive ones (born free). It was a waste. I think you will be really happy with them. Good luck. Oh by the way, I love your side note at the bottom. I asked a question awhile back about feeding and got a response or two about the whole breastfeeding thing. It's so rude! Take care!!! =)

I had the same problem with the Born Free bottles. I took the wide neck Dr. Brown wide neck nipple, valve and tube and stuck it on the Born Free bottle and my daughter has been perfectly happy with it. You can buy the replacement Dr. Brown parts at Babies R Us.

I think it's because the nipples begin to have a strange smell/taste after a while, however you wash it. My husband thinks it may be because of the way this kind of plastic begins to break down. It happened to us (with both the baby bottles and the toddler sippy cups), so we simply remember to regularly change the nipples.
Hope this helps,
M

Yes, we did Born Free bottles, too. We then switched to the cheap, Playtex nursers with the drop-in linings as our son got older and he LOVED them! He could hold the bottles by himself and suck the the milk out from any angle. No worries about gassiness or air bubbles. I tried so hard to be environmentally friendly, organic, etc. since I couldn't breastfeed, but really my son did best with the Playtex nursers. Best wishes to you and your baby!

When my two girls were infants the flow of the BornFrees was too fast so they didn't work for us from the get-go. We switched to Dr. Brown's for a number of reasons. When they hit about 5 or 6 months, they started throwing the bottle out and I realized they needed the faster flow nipples bc the slow flow was boring them.
